Don't Worry, Haters, Dede Wilsey Is Doing Just Fine

We've always maintained a gay boner for Dede Wilsey. How could we not? She unironically dresses like a 16-year-old Disney princess. We love it. And we love you, Dede. But not everyone feels that way.

First, there was this item about something boring and very non-fabulous. Then there was this boring NYT piece. And then there was this boring thing about some curator getting fired. Prior to that, of course, there was THE GREATEST WORK OF NONFICTION ever put to paper.

But here's the thing, haters: You don't faze Dede. Nothing fazes Dede. "Like an exotic plant," SF Magazine beams, "the heat has not made Wilsey wilt, but thrive."

In fact, next month, Wilsey will be presented with the ArtCare Award for Excellence in Civic Arts by the San Francisco Arts Commission and the San Francisco Art Dealers Association. In classic form, Wilsey shrugs off any talk of vindication. "I don’t need a vote of confidence," she tells San Francisco, "although I do appreciate [the award]." Despite the verbal dodge, it's hard not to see the award as a public affirmation of her leadership and influence by Mayor Ed Lee, who was quoted approvingly in the press release announcing the award, and by the City's Art Commission, on which Wilsey served under Mayors Brown and Newsom.

Which is to say, Dede Wilsey is the Jinkx Monsoon of San Francisco society. Water off a duck's back, water off a duck's back.

Diana Ross Coming to San Francisco

The most exciting event to ever happen in San Francisco will go down on September 16 at the Golden Gate Theater. You might want to sit down for this one. You seated? Good. Diana Ross -- that's Miss Ross to you, plebeian -- will grace us with her harrowing yet charming presence later this year, smack-dab in the heart of the Tenderloin. The Motown legend and original Dreamgirl will perform her first concert in San Francisco in more than 40 years. The last time Miss Ross performed in the city was with The Supremes at the Fairmont Hotel's Venetian Room in 1969.

The Golden Gate Theater was featured in Miss Ross' stunning film debut, Lady Sings the Blues.

"Diana Ross, her music and her voice are legendary," organizers of Rick Bartalini Presents said in a news release. "The concert, a full theatrical experience, will include breathtaking costumes and stage design, along with a live string and horn section." (Anything involving Miss Ross is breathtaking, Bartalini associates. That's a given.)

Miss Ross was originally scheduled to appear Thursday, September 15 at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville. All tickets purchased for the Lincoln Theater event, whether paid by credit card, cash or check, will be fully refunded to all ticket holders by a check from the Lincoln Theater. BREAKING: Christian Siriano Refuses to Cross Golden Gate Bridge

This just in: Project Runway winner Christian Siriano (author of Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self) has canceled his Litquake event tonight in Corte Madera. Why? Because, sadly, he "won't cross the Golden Gate bridge in the bad weather." .

Alas.

Although his CM appearance has been nixed, he's instead "moved his appearance to Book Passage in the Ferry Building today at 3:30 p.m."

Amy Tan's tribute/roast, however, is still scheduled to go ~~tonight~~ tomorrow. The rain's wrath has yet to strike fear into the heart of the brave novelist. (Thus: Lindo:Tan::Waverly:Siriano)

On Tuesday, after getting into a minor dust up with Army Corps of Engineers division leader Brigadier General Michael Walsh over Hurricane Katrina cleanup, Barbara Boxer corrected him over something minor:

"Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am? It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title. I'd appreciate it."

Who on God's green earth does Senator Barbara Boxer think she is, Diana Ross?

Anyway, Babs was henceforth referred to as "Senator" by the General.

Chris Daly's Threatening Email to SFDCCC Members Revealed!

You know how Board of Supes Prez Aaron Peskin was elected to the head of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee? Beating out former chair Scott Wiener? All because Chris Daly spammed voters with a threatening email? Well, here it is, complete with a menacing tone and a plan to take over the DCCC.

Oh, and it gets really good after the jump, which is where the threats begin to bloom most beautifully. Check it:

"'It's an embarrassment for me to be wearing this (expletive deleted) uniform 'cause of the way I'm playing. There, that's it. Now go away,' Bonds said at his locker" after yesterday's game, just before flipping over a laundry cart and then storming off.

Bravo, Bonds! "Fuck 'em, fuck 'em, fuck 'em," as one punk-rock genius would always say in the wings just before every show.

We know he's disliked by so many, but our love for Bonds just skyrocketed. Temperamental, controversial, slightly infused, and crazy talented is how we like our star athletes. (At least for those of us who can't play/don't watch sports.) Sigh.
