Peskin Crowned King of San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee
Progressives scored a big win on Wednesday night. SF Board of Supes Prez Aaron "Payback's a Bitch" Peskin was elected to head the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee last night, inching out former chair Scott Wiener and giving "a boost to progressive candidates for supervisor in the November election." Peskin, according to SFBG, won on an 18-16 vote. The real vote, because political committees inexplicably love several rounds of voting on anything, will happen later. But? Peskin, it seems, is pretty much a shoo-in.
Update: Heh. Second vote already happened. Peskin is officially king o' committee.

Peskin 4 Mayor.
Totally.
You're joking, of course?
I was at the meeting last night. It was a nightmare. They had passed around copies of emails Chris Daly sent threatening people if they didn't vote for Peskin. The majority of people spoke in favour of Scott; a few seemed to try to find something nice to say about Peskin.
I can't believe they let Daly and Peskin engineer a coup of the DCCC. The only thing to stop them from starting a new political machine that will hurt San Francisco even more is to make sure none of their so-called "progressive" candidates win in November.
Believe the temporary chair vote occurred at the beginning of last night's meeting and the "real vote" occurred at the end. Peskin will be chair for a little while, anyway.
SFMichael, are copies of said emails available? that's the coolest thing i've heard all year. i simply must read them.
also: wiener is a super swell guy, too, which i should have pointed out.
Just cements the fact that you folks in SF are KOOKOO!
Peskin Daly and the rest of the nuts ... Someone should make a sitcom on this stuff!
i like what i have seen of peskin's take-no-prisoners no bullshit attitude so far. but i would be more interested if this sort of politicking was a boost to candidates that could actually fix the muni, crime, and quality-of-life problems in this city. saying that you're "progressive" is great but who really gives a shit without those policies providing practical and beneficial results? since spending the last few years in san francisco i've never been so disilluisioned about the effiacy of liberal-leaning politics... and i'm not really convinced these guys are going to be the ones to overhaul stuff like investigating why we give hoodlums free passes to $7k-a-month summer camp to make them feel better about themselves.
I used to think reports of Peskins tirades "that lawyer can go fuck himself" and drunk dials were amusing. But I'm starting to lean in the direction of "that's really an unprofessional way for a political official to behave."
I was pushed further in that direction by Nathan Ballard's comment in the Chron today that "Chris Daly is hardly the president of Mensa."
Seriously, is this the level of discourse we want in city government?
That was the most boring hour of my life. Here's a hot tip for the DCCC: open bar.
Brock, I have a copy of two emails, but only printed, not electronic...
Beth, you said it!
Well, you have to admire his hardnosed realism. The DCCC is who decides who gets on the Democratic Party slate mailers, and generally (D5 Mirkarimi excepted), no Dem slate, no win in November.
But it's in no way a step forward for SF.
The bullies won the votes? Take note of which politicians sell the greater good down the river for their own perceived political aspirations. Otherwise known as ... well, you can pick a word.
Maybe they'll be able to deliver SF for Nader Gonzales.
you said wiener. heh.
