We know, we know, wha? Well, statistically, the Giants could still have made the playoffs if they won every game up until the end of the season and the Padres, DBacks, Dodgers, and Rockies all came down with the Ebola Virus. Hey, it happens sometimes, sort of. In the Premiere League, Tottenham once got eliminated from qualifying for the Champions League when several key members of the team came down with a mysterious case of food poisoning.

So what's left in the season? Well, you know how people have been saying all season how much they'd like to see the kids play? The kids are playing-- those few times in which we checked out a game, we kept on wondering who the hell are the people on the field and what have they done to Ryan Klesko? In fact, the Barry, who's become kind of irrelevant to everything since he broke the record, isn't even playing much. It's like when the ratings were down on "The Facts of Life" and so the producers brought in some new students to highlight and made the regular crew more like supporting players than anything else. Didn't they open up a bakery or something? And didn’t Natalie lose her virginity to George Clooney? Man, that was a long time ago.

There will be a lot of post-mortems for the season sure to come, but we'll get things started. Lessons to be learned after the jump

Has Anyone Seen this Man?

Remember way back to this spring when there was a Democratic primary? He's down in the polls, can't get much in the way of publicity, and is having trouble running money. As the article in the Mercury News points out, he appears to be in that political death spiral where people assume he is going to lose means, so he's having trouble raising money, which means he has less money to spend which makes it more likely he'll lose which makes it harder for him to raise money and so on and so forth.

It doesn't help when your opponent is a huge Hollywood star who gets publicity in anything they do. Even worse, when your opponent is doing everything possible to steal away your issues by signing "bipartisan" bill after bipartisan bill. First there's all the green stuff Arnie has been spouting out lately but on top of that is he's been going around campaigning for all those big infrastructure bonds with Democratic members of the Assembly. So much so, Fabian Nunez and others got into a little trouble with their party bosses for doing so. Hell, Arnie just hopped on the anti-Darfur bandwagon and signed an no investment bill with George Clooney at his side. It doesn't get anymore un-Republican than that.

Phil's one big chance to resurrect things and save his campaign comes on October 7, when he and Arnie debate man-o-man. Look good and he's back, baby! Do nothing and this sucker is pretty much over.
I stop in at the corner coffee shop which is buzzing with the usual unemployed people (usually with emo hair, or Marina hoop earings) busily tapping away at their PowerBooks and iBooks (occasionally Dells). I order a bagel and a coffee and as I wait recognize a neighbor sitting next to a Mission girl surfing something or other. So I walk over to say hello, and after a few minutes notice that the Mission girl is surfing on a 20 inch iMac.

This one, however, does not. Mission girl had carried her own personal iMac into the cafe and set it up in the corner. Next to her was a giant nylon bag in which I assume she carried the iMac... if you know anyone working from home (or nearby), stop by at Nook (Hyde x Jackson) and ask what's going on!

Turns out, Arnie is Ubersexy! According to Men's Vogue, Arnie is the Fifth Ubersexiest man in the world, making him ubersexier than Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan, but not as ubersexy as George Clooney, #1 Ubersexiest male Bono, or Donald Trump (blogga, please). Not on the list was Rush Limbaugh, who has been whining about it ever since.

As for his propositions in the Very Special Election, we turn to the Prop. 77, the redistricting initiative, because if politics make for strange bedfellows, this one is causing TomKat-like couplings. Besides the support of Mr. Campaign Reform himself, John McCain, the initiative got the support of well-known political reform organization, Common Cause. Well, sort of. Seems there was a bit of a disagreement over supporting it, and it's rumored several board members threatened to resign in protest of aligning with a politician whose pro-business stand would earn the plaudits of Montgomery Burns. Also supporting the proposition is consumer rights group, CalPIRG.

Why somebody with enough money to never have to get up and work at 5:30 in the morning would do so is beyond me, but Smith has never been your average bear.
