Our Bumblebee Is Back!
Well, look who's back for round three with the media! That's right, girls' girl and bumblebee Jennifer Siebel is tentatively tiptoeing back into the publicity news rounds, with a soft-focus lens interview in her daily newspaper, the Marin Independent Journal.
In this interview, Jennifer Siebel rambles on and on about how she only went to business school to please her parents ("a pattern for much of my life"), cries a lot, says she only gets "six hours of sleep a night," and, jarringly, appears to confess to having had at least some involvement in a golf cart accident at the age of 6 that killed her older sister (who was 8). Yikes! (but she says this is why she's a "nurturer" and "protector" now.)
We're not touching the golf cart revelation, but we're running a quick survey. Which of the following lines from Bumblebee Siebel's Marin IJ interview is your favorite? (Beth Spotswood, for what it's worth, votes for "I ski hard.")
Note: We totally missed the "I grew up in a very beautiful, magical bubble" line (we are kicking ourselves) until it was pointed out to us by a reader, so alas, it's not included in the poll.

Jennifer sounds really, REALLY uneducated in this interview. She went to Stanford. I work with three Stanford Master Degree grads and I know they are what I call "top level thinkers". When I showed them this article, after they finished laughing they agreed with me. Jennifer is a putz.
I felt bad for a minute that she lost her sister, but it is the most STRANGEST way possible by a golf cart accident.
All I can think of is Gavin better not let Jennifer anywhere NEAR the Plumpjack Golf Tournament next month. Where is Hilary Newsom Callan when Gavin needs her?
You missed us. Admit it.

my personal favorite line is the last:
"I am simply a girl who means well, who wants to make movies and to do good things in the world."
uh...isn't she 32 or something, and a little old to be a girl?
*sigh*
The shedding of a tear while reflecting on her own perfection was classic.
One word, "excruciating".
Please tell me her fifteen minutes are up. I never thought I'd say this, but I liked the Scientologist better than her.
Rita, you totally stole my "Yikes" over the lethal Hawaiian golf cart "accident." And my favorite moment in the whole interview is where Jennifer explains how she changed her career from Third World Doctor to Would-Be Hollywood Star.
"After graduation she worked at a hospital in Quito, Ecuador, thinking she might become a Third World doctor. Two things squelched that notion: She grew faint at the sight of blood, and her mentor-doctor in Quito seemed hardened and depressed by his work: "I thought, 'Oh my God, I want to be happy.'"
None of the above! My favorite quotes are:
" I kind of grew up in a bubble - a very beautiful, magical bubble."
“Oh my God, I want to be happy."
"He makes me happy. He inspires me. He's a visionary. He makes me laugh."
"I am simply a girl who means well, who wants to make movies and to do good things in the world."
Man, this chick is annoying. I'm sorry she lost her sister, and had to leave the “beautiful, magical bubble" of Ross with its unicorns and leprechauns, but she still lacks tact and sensitivity for her repeated cheap and judgmental shots at Ruby, and her subsequent faux-apology. She’s not doing a damn thing to change the world. She's only giving these fluff interviews to promote her non-career, do damage control, and herald the fact that she's dating the bestest mayor in the world.
And can she give one interview without mentioning the Clooney hookup? Jeebus.

And can't she give one interview without mentioning that the Clooney hookup? Jeebus.
Somehow all the quotes in the comments make me cringe even more. She's such an embarassment. I've lost a lot of respect for him via his association with her, especially after the bumblebee incident.
where, oh where, was her "PR" person, Lori? PLEASE don't tell me she let this interview happen... WHY is this chick "talking" to the press again?
And this, fundamentally, is why SFist sucks. Jennifer Siebel is a fantastically boring story, and doting on her is neither entertaining nor productive. Rewarding a publicity-hungry starlet for banging the publicity-hungry mayor by slavishly covering her every move -- I do not understand this logic.
Seriously, you can do better.
This is getting old. The girl leapt to her boyfriend's defense and granted, what came out her keyboard was incredibly stupid but trying to publicly assassintate her here is just mean. Grow up and pick on someone who deserves it more.
This is getting old. The girl leapt to her boyfriend's defense and granted, what came out of her keyboard was incredibly stupid but trying to publicly assassinate her is just mean and frankly, an even poorer display on your part. Grow up and pick on someone who deserves it more.
Is there any story she won't use to illicit sympathy. She's suddenly telling us that she "was a participant" in her sister's death. Shouldn't some things remain private? Do any of us really need to be privy to those details?
Guess the fact that no one's talking about her this week is taking its toll. She's apparently so desperate to keep the publicity going, she's granted an audience to someone she grew up with who works at the Marin Independent.
Maybe she is putting that MBA to work. We've all heard the saying that any publicity is good publicity... Jennifer's living it.
She did NOT simply leap to Newsom's defense. She publicly degraded the Tourk family in several outlets by placing blame and pointing fingers. What about their rights? She should have just said she supports Newsom-end of story. These people have done nothing to warrant the vitriol she directed toward them. I remember seeing it start with her KRON-TV interview when she said there are two sides to the story. It was not her place to comment about the scandal even if they are dating. The outrage stems from the fact that what she did meets the criteria for defamation of character and libel. She picked up the first stone and tossed at a family who has remained silent when she did the Chronicle story. The follow up Sfist rant restated her position on fault, and made further public accusations. She showed everyone her true colors on this blog. She needs to stop talking to the press. The latest interview is just a smoke screen and spin control attempting to paint her as a sympathetic person.
am i the only one bothered by the name of her so called production company? Girls Club! sounds like the title track to a Spice Girl song! uggghhh!
i too liked the Scientologist better (and she was way prettier) and wish she/they would quit mentioning she used to date George C.!
she is sooo annoying!!!
I caught this article in the Marin Independent Journal earlier, and I had the immediate feeling that this woman must be the most bubble-headed of all bubble heads in the universe. Someone ought to take a vote on America's Top Ten Bubble Heads. Jennifer would surely win the title.
The Tourks have remained silent throughout this entire ordeal. That has actually worked to their disadvantage. Who was it who said "Tell a lie often enough and people will believe it?" Somewhere along the line, the Tourks ought to put a human face on the labels that have almost become synonyms for mistress and adulterer. I have a hunch if they did, Siebel would disappear in a puff of smoke.
Gavin, get out now before it is too late. Unless you want a political liability like Judith Nathan Guliani on your hands, cut this magical bubble dweller loose. She obviously cannot turn down the chance at an interview and she will destroy your future.
Don't hate her because she's beautiful.
We hate her because she does and says stupid and harmful things. She elected herself abriter of blame when she degraded Alex and Ruby in the press. She does not get to exhibit her ruling class behavior with no accountability. It is not about envy, it is about justice and standing up for people who have been publicly humiliated by people in the public eye who think they can do and say whatever they want to the "little people"
who don't have a voice.
I severely dislike women who get by in life playing the "innocent" card.
Is she afflicted with fetal alcohol syndrome? She looks like it.
Let's not attack her looks, that's low Sasha. She's a pretty girl. The real issue is her treatment of people in a public forum. Don't take it to a schoolyard level. That's no better than what she did to Alex and Ruby. Let's not forget them.
Gary, that's a pathetic statement. Why do the "little people" or whatever you want to call yourself have a voice in a private citizen's life?
You must watch a lot of Oprah and Maury Povich.
I love how she says she promised Newsom she would not discuss him with the press, and then proceeds to discuss him for an entire paragraph. And the constant flogging of her "dating George Clooney." From what I've read, Clooney doesn't remember that at all. Not too bright, this girl.
Ridiculous puff piece (can't call it journalism)written by a "reporter" (if you can call it that) who is obviously a friend.
I preferred the scientologist, as well. Hell, I really preferred Kimberly, but I guess he's scared of women with ambition and brains. No worry of that with this bimbo.
Save the Bumblebee, Save The World...
God, I love this woman. She generates more material for Beth Spotswood, et al, than any fiction write could. More more more!
I don't think anyone should forget what Jen did to the Tourks. She used her position as the mayor's girlfriend to attack them publicly. What gave her the right to do that?
She's using her position as the mayor's girlfriend for a God damn lot of things.
Gary, you seem to be pretty hurt by Siebel's comments, perhaps too much so. Any particular reason?
-
I just find it unseemly that she lashed out the way she did with no provocation. The Tourks were trying to get on with their lives and she made disgusting public accusations about them. They haven't said a word to the press. They aren't millionaires with connections like the others involved in this situation. They have careers to consider and a child. The balance of power was absolutely stacked against them. Then this woman comes along and throws more mud at them. It just burns my ass.
Oh ... I've had it up to here!
Gary - I was never trying to defend her or say she had a right to say what she did. You missed my point entirely... I'm just saying that it doesn't become this blog's job to flipping crucify her every chance they get. Oh, it's about "justice" and "doing what's right" you say? Perhaps you should look up the word "justice" (hint: it's no where near vengeance in the dictionary) and ponder on "the right thing to do" while keeping in mind the difference between right and self-righteous.
This is totally not getting old. She's the girlfriend of our mayor, and she's a moron (and possibly certifiable). She also says revealing, and depressing, things about the way our mayor thinks.
Don't listen to the Bumblebee Brigade - keep up the coverage.
I'm not crucifying her or hurling insults. I'm simply stating that she did a really rotten thing that should not be so easily forgotten by puff journalism designed to paint her as a symphathetic person. She didn't just stand up for her boyfriend. She took somebody down repeatedly in public. I've done my suggested dictionary reading, perhaps you should look up libel and defamation of character. That's what happened last month.
Hm, I also think that line about her being "'the token white chick' in a movie now filming in New York," is classic.
Gary, are you related to the Tourks in any way?
And I am with Girl Power It Ain't: KEEP UP THE COVERAGE!!
Oh yeah, "the token white chick" was definitely my favorite line too. It should be a write-in!
No Hank, I'm just tired of this woman and her excuses about naivety and being too open and trusting with reporters. She's press hungry knows exactly what she is doing. She's got herself on Google Alert for christssakes. She wasn't tricked into the episode last month. Just not buying the babe in the woods thing. She's exploiting her relationship with Newsom to further her acting career and consistently exhibiting her ruling class no accountability behavior with these inane interviews.
These golden quotes taken from my fav. Yellow pub, the IJ speak for themselves. Nothing more to add.
"I'm very, very naive when it comes to the press."
"My friends say I am way too open and trusting."
"He is a wonderful man. I wouldn't be with him if he weren't."
"He saw sports as the path to freedom."
"I just played tennis and basketball this morning. I still ski hard."
and that's when I realized I kind of grew up in a bubble - a very beautiful, magical bubble."
I was this driven, over-achieving perfectionist who excelled in sports."
"I had to find myself again."
"I thought, 'Oh my God, I want to be happy.'"
"one of the most enriching years of my life"
"a pattern for much of my life."
"I want it to inspire young girls."
"An amazing producing partner and a very special friend. She is one of the most generous and kind-hearted people I know."
"Incredibly loyal, compassionate and sensitive."
"My passionate side, the artistic side, says 'No, I can do it.'"
"The token white chick."
"I only sleep six hours a night."
"There are two sides to every story."
"If people did research into the scandal the woman is the culprit. Alex Tourk is a nice man and it saddens me that his wife did that to him."
"Checkered history."
"Bad news."
"He makes me happy. He inspires me. He's a visionary. He makes me laugh."
"Are still solid."
"Give back."
"I was a participant."
"I tried to be two people, be perfect, because I didn't feel like I was enough."
"The nurturer, the protector, the giver who wants to help the less fortunate."
"A loving, beautiful sister."
"A huge heart."
"Sensitive woman."
"I am simply a girl who means well, who wants to make movies and to do good things in the world."
I thought it very telling when - instead of feeling empathy or compassion for her mentor-doctor who seemed depressed by his work in Quito - all she could think about was her own happiness. She seems to lack the ability to understand what it's like to be in other people's shoes or the impact her words and actions may have on others.
Hmmm.. come to think of it - maybe she and the Mayor are perfect for each other !
Keep it coming, guys. This is from a Little Old Lady who loves the blogs of Cheeky Young Peoples.
Has anyone the energy to research old newspaper files for the real story on the golf-cart episode? Now that would REALLY be news-blogging-journalism at its best.
Quick! Before Getty buys the newspapers!
And, even though I am over 65 and not too hip: Jennifer soulds LIKE A CREEP. And talks like a 20-year old Valley Girl (and I DON'T mean Ross Valley.)
Go, bloggers. You make my day!
Geez. I forgot to ask:
(1) do you think Jengirl wants to get on Don Imus' hot rail, with the "...token white girl" reference?
(2) do you think her little sisters say such nice things about her because they might be a touch afraid of her?
Jen's inner dialogue in Quito, Equador:
"God, it's like hot in here. Can't they turn on the central air? Why are there so many poor people around and stuff. This job is so totally lame and my boss is such a downer. I mean, he's all like bitter and hardened and whatever. Like, what's his problem? I so don't want to be him in ten years. Oh, my god...blood..Ewww! I'm totally becoming an actress..."
Thank you Jen for another repellent article.
Amy, 44: Would that be bee repellant?
I wish there was a spray to keep her away from Northern California. If only it were that easy. She should stay in Los Angeles where vapid, insular behavior is de rigueur. Gavin has lost the respect of many voters for his continued association with this woman.
Gavin..... Get rid of her, she is weighing you down and making you look stupid.
oh y'all are just jealous.
Jennifer, honey, even though you keep telling us how kind and naive you are, your previous comments were extremely unkind and your courting of the press isn't naive at all - it's calculated.
It's hard for anyone to believe your comments on this blog came from a "way too open and trusting" place. They were just mean, period. And if you hate the press, why are you giving another interview, girl?
Of course you want to be a nurturer, giver, and protector (who doesn't?) but the truth is, that's just not who you are. As you realized in Quito, you can talk the talk but not walk the walk. You "just want to be happy".
And there's nothing wrong with that. But try coming to terms with who you actually are: a desperately ambitious person who will say and do anything for a shot at fame.
Meanwhile, the huge gulf between the way you want to appear and how you actually act is appalling and obvious.
Well said, Sage advice. I'm tired of her excuses of naivety as well. Why was this interview necessary other than to promote her career, remind everyone she's dating the mayor, keep her name in the press and attempt damage control to improve her image? It was a total fluff article that only solidified her life of privilege and tried to make her appear sympathetic. I'm not buying it either. I guess she thinks we are all really stupid.
Below is a quote from Jennifer's website:
While I was really enjoying my time back at Stanford, I felt my passion for the arts reemerging, and I started to spend any free time I had in the drama department. I became aware of a deep compassion and vulnerability I’d garnered during my humanitarian work that proved fortuitous to my acting and compelled me to study the craft. Pretty soon, I was taking night classes at San Francisco ’s American Conservatory Theater. My experience there helped me solidify a decision I’d been flirting with since my childhood…to move to Los Angeles and pursue a career in the arts.
She's always talking about her vulnerablility and compassion. I think most people remember the lack of compassion she showed last month to a woman who has done nothing to her and remains silent. She's even using her sister's death to promote her acting career. It is shameful
you guys are rad, ripping on jennifer. kick retarded children, too? or just point at them when they say something dumb in the local daily? bloggers: 175. dumb people who say silly things, add nothing to the public discourse: 0. but thanks for letting me post MY opinion!
I just heard that Jen's finally getting her big break. She's starring in San Mateo High's production of Guys and Dolls this Spring!
Hey jelly - I hear you, but have to say that comparing Jen to a retarded child doesn't really help her case.
I feel so much sympathy for Rippey-Tourk. That poor little cokehead who cheated on her husband. Oh the pain.... please. Save it Gary. yeah jen's an airhead but she is much higher on the evolutionary ladder that Rippey tourk. Now if jen started smoking crack.......
That interview made me like her so much less. What does Gavin see in her, except for her family connections to billions of dollars? I much preferred the attorney Kimberly who proudly stated that she was "born in the Mission to a puerto rican mother and an irish father" and actually had a real career.
It does not matter if Ruby is the biggest coke whore in town. It is not Jennifer's place to ever make unfounded, damaging, public accusations simply because she is screwing the mayor. Her outburst last month here and in the Chron met the definition of defamation of character and libel. I suspect the only reason her silly ass isn't being sued is the fact that Alex and Ruby are under some Newsom instigated gag order as a condition of his severance. That's what sucks Trey, the ruling class attitude and the fact that the Tourks are not at liberty to foam at the mouth the way Jen got to. She threw poo at Ruby in the press just like a monkey at the zoo. I'm sorry but her Jerry Springer-esq public display puts her at the evolutionary level of protozoa.
***She threw poo at Ruby in the press just like a monkey at the zoo***
That is so funny Gary, although I don't know why this keeps being about Jennifer v. Ruby.
This is ALL ABOUT JENNIFER!! (hah)
Um, I doubt the fact that the Tourks aren't publicly foaming at the mouth, a la Ms Siebel, is an indication that they're under a gag order.
Who with any sense would make themselves look so dumb as to go public with high school drama?
And I'm not buying a "ruling class" conspiracy, Gary. Siebel is a no-class media whore who misses no chance to debase herself in public.
It's not about money or class, just some idiot who went too far.
Well said, excuseme!
Guess I've been reading too many High Times editorials.
I've seen smarter and more sympathetic women on a Bangbus or Blacks on Blondes movie shoot. This woman is worthless.
Jennifer is clearly a bit immature and manifesting some obvious signs of a narcissistic personality disorder. But the "tourks not having connections"? Thats crazy! He runs a PR firm with Shriver as a client... no connections?
The Tourks attorney knows that "truth is the absolute defense" in a slander or defamation case. If there is any shred of truth to the "checkered past thing" with Ruby or any other "embarresing info" its best not to file any civil lawsuit because the truth will come out in a civil lawsuit. A civil lawsuit will only air all Ruby's dirty laundry along with Jen's and Gavin's and its a huge lose lose lose.
Clearly birds of a feather flock together, and I doubt anyone in that "flock" wants a public record of their "questionable" behaviors that undoubtedly would come up in a civil lawsuit.
