And there's no escaping, as local singer Lily Allen discovered when she was barred entry to the US. The British mapping agency caused further bad karma, by blocking a 3-D representation of London in Google Earth. But the smiles returned to Londonist's faces as they interviewed Baroness von Reichardt, who has completely covered her house in mosaic tiles.

Austinist interviewed ACL Fest artists Midlake and The National, and started discussing the many scheduling conflicts with Round 1: Spoon Vs. Queens Of The Stone Age. They also co-hosted a wild boat party on Lake Travis. Meanwhile, the elderly are staging a raid on the city's coffers, while the city's affordable housing program moves forward. Austin police uncovered a local prostitution ring exploiting illegal immigrants, and a new survey found that Austinites are unlikely to put out on first dates. And say hello to America's newest Bachelor: Austinite Brad "McSteamy" Womack, owner of local shot bars Chuggin' Monkey and Dizzy Rooster.

LAist got jolted by a small, but nerve tingling earthquake last week, but there was much more excitement in the air than that. In depth, they discovered a neighborhood that many natives never knew about and munched on food at a rare Buddhist Temple's Farmers Market while Google launched their street view maps feature that largely ignored most of Los Angeles. They chatted up Jenji Kohan, creator of Showtime's Weeds, and found that Brad Pitt is finally serving his jury duty. The only way things could get any better is if he were assigned to Nicole Richie's DUI case, or maybe an art show where the the Golden Girls go wild (yes, from the TV show).

Torontoist got tons of photos of one of the city's biggest parties, Caribana, and celebrated girl-oriented rock. They discovered a cute sign on a construction site, got kind of excited for architect Will Alsop's latest creation, and kind of a little less excited for the H&M's shitty new (partially-illegal) ad campaign. Also, they're on a Panorama kick as of late, and their latest is of a harbourfront bridge.

It's been a long, hot week in the city for DCist, with record-setting temperatures besieging Washington and generally giving everyone a bit of a the crazies. Judging by their comment threads, the heat didn't make for the best time for D.C. to find out that a Capitol Hill bar is refusing entry to Marines without dates or that their new Metro Chief is considering getting rid of late night train service.
Banner week for SFist as the site's new editor introduced himself -- hooray for Brock! While the NY Times weighed in on SF's mayoral race, only SFist had the (insert tongue firmly into cheek) hard-hitting latest on candidate/activist Josh Wolf. Coverage of a protest vs. gentrification spawned a fantastic debate amongst SFist's readers. Finally, from the sublime to the ridiculous: video of a man that confused a Board of Supes meeting with "open mic night" and sang a custom version of Madonna's "Borderline" to a much-beleaguered board member.

Phillyist has had a busy week, looking for power outlets while liveblogging the First Annual BlogPhiladelphia "unconference." (Here's day 1 and day 2 of their coverage, and a video from the event.) They also interviewed Chris Funk of the Decemberists (since those guys are in town this weekend to play with a local orchestra), reviewed that little indie film about the wizard child, and helped out with tips on how to act if you run into that annoying ex of yours. Finally, they warned the suburbs to Beware of the Blob!

For LAist, it was a week of new beginnings. Soccer Star, David Beckham, made his official move to Los Angeles just in time for LAist's Neighborhood Project, which will cover the 170+ neighborhoods in the city. They interviewed the Los Angeles Fire Department and found that they may be the most Web 2.0 savvy government office in the world. In other government fun, a bill in the state senate is being pushed through to ensure that a particular person remains in office indefinitely. Speaking of things that remain forever, you have probably seen TV shows and movies that were shot at the rickety-almost-alling-over Lacy Street Studios.

You might have Duck Tours in your city by now, Bostonist has been watching them roll the streets and rivers for years -- now there are two, and a court case. A couple weeks ago news came out that former governor, now presidential hopeful Mitt Romney strapped his dog to the roof on family vacations, now blogs have gone to the dogs. A new name for a subway stop has Bostonist coming up with their own suggestions. They said goodbye to a beloved by some, hated by others, personality. Oh, and, as usual in Boston, Sox fans believe.

After the jump: monkey business in Toronto! Dragon fruit in N.Y.C.! Naked shopworkers in London! And why shouldn't you swim in D.C.'s Potomac River?

Gavin's BFF, Vanessa Getty, looked fabulous at artist Damien Hirst's show in LA last Thursday. This is a signature look for Vanessa -- vintage-looking dress, simple jewelry, and metallic clutch -- but it works. Too bad she didn't look this good in that Judith Leiber ad!

We do wish her facial expressions were a little more natural (read: human). We kind of liken her to our own version of Victoria Beckham, only less tan. And that's a good thing.

Barry gives the games legitimacy they might not have gotten if say, the biggest guy on the U.S.A team is Mark Grudzielanek. It'll also make it less likely that some poor, starving third-world country, will beat the U.S. We hate when that happens. But, of course, in all things Barry, the big question is what's in it for us, Giants fans, and what's in it for him. For that's where things get interesting.

For us Giants fans what this will mean is that every time Barry bats, we'll all have to hold our breath hoping he doesn't destroy his knees. The good news is that he'll DH, which means less wear and tear, and he'll also be facing real live pitching, good pitching, instead of some kid right out of Double A ball. That could mean sharper Barry.

But why would Barry be doing such a thing? After all, nobody quite associates Barry with self-sacrificing for the good of well, anyone. Which is probably reason #1 why he's doing it. Nothing like a little wrapping yourself around the flag to bring the good P.R. Also, it'll mean that the ultra-competitive, ultra-serious, ultra-training camp hating Bonds will be able to use the World Cup as his automatic "Get Out of Training Camp Free" card.

And then there's the fact that the World Cup will have super-serious drug policies, policies right out of the World Anti-Doping Agency. If he passes the piss test and continues on hitting homers every time he's not intentionally walked, how could anyone say his home run barrage is entirely because of better living through chemistry and not his God given talent?

Either way, U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
Not such an easy question, is it?

Ok, just to make it a little less difficult, we'll limit the boundaries of the question even further. Name a place in San Francisco where you can drink draft beer from all over the world in an Irish pub setting, play a game of pool, eat chicken nuggets, fish and chips, clam strips or Indian food, play arcade machines, battle it out at the air hockey rink, pretend you're David Beckham playing table football or sit outside with views of San Francisco's Cable Cars and maybe even listen to some live music to boot. All of this, until 1am in the morning. By now you should know the answer. If you don't, where have you been all your Bay-Area life? You have been missing out on a very fun, very cheap, very satisfying San Francisco night out.
