  • AT&T has apparently suffered a major data breach in which "nearly all" cell customers' call and text records from mid- to late 2022 were exposed. This includes every number called or texted, however it doesn't include the content of those texts. [CNN]
  • The case of that Australian businessman who was found injured on a downtown San Francisco street on the Fourth of July and put into an induced coma has a new twist: He was not robbed, police say, and was not the victim of violence. Surveillance footage shows he did meet any violence (so he apparently fell?), and he actually had his wallet and cellpone with him when he arrived at the hospital, contrary to an earlier report.   • Neighbors in Alameda gathered on a beach Thursday night at sunset to mourn the loss of their neighbors — a family including a mother, child, and two grandparents — after a horrific domestic violence shooting Wednesday night. [KTVU]
  • The National Weather Service is warning of the possibility of dry lightning — between a 10% and 40% chance — in the Sierra and inland mountain ranges California this weekend, creating a potential wildfire risk. [Chronicle]
  • SFO employee Lauren Inthavong, whose car was crushed when that tire fell off a United plane taking off from the airport in March, says she's still without a car and has not been compensated by United. [ABC 7]
  • A new study has come out that may pinpoint the cause of the autoimmune disease lupus, which may lead to new, targeted immunotherapy treatments. [KTVU]

    Today, Hate Hurts America (chortle) and the Interfaith Coalition announced that WalMart and AT&T either stopped advertising or now refuse to place ads on Michael Savage's "Savage Nation" program, joining a list of advertisers that have shunned the talk show host. (AutoZone, Citrix, TrustedID, JC Penney, and OfficeMax have also pulled their advertising.) Why? Because Michael Savage is a big ol;' meanie , crusher of warm fuzzies, and wisher of AIDS upon you sodomites. That's why.

    But in a strange twist, WalMart's and AT&T's ad withdrawals have inadvertently rendered Sir Savage Nation a little less savage. A little more, dare we say, Green. Unwillingly, Savage has returned a wee bit closer to his left-leaning roots. He's proving to be the epitome of San Francisco by having limited corporate/big-box advertisers. Way to go, Savage! Dolores Park picnic together this Sunday? You bring the homeopathic meds and grass, we'll bring the organic pears and goat feta.
