A five-alarm fire is burning on Mission Street near 29th Street, impacting as many as eight buildings and causing officials to order area residents to shelter in place.

The shelter-in-place order applies to those "between San Jose Ave Cesar Chavez 30th Street and Folsom to Eugenia and Elsie on the East," fire officials say via Twitter.

According to a tweet from the San Francisco Fire Department, the fire began at 3312 Mission Street, which is the location of a Cole Hardware

Via Twitter, San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Grace Gatpandan warns pedestrians and drivers away from the area, which is closed as SFFD battles the flames.

Initially reported as a three-alarm blaze, the fire was escalated to four alarms at around 2:45 Saturday afternoon, and was boosted to a five-alarm fire at around 3:50 p.m.

According to the SFFD, no injuries have been reported in the blaze.

Surrounding buildings at the addresses from 3312 through 3366 Mission are also being evacuated, according to the SFFD, as the fire as spread to those structures. Eventually, according to a tweet from SFFD, as many as eight buildings in the area of the fire are "involved" in the blaze.

Those displaced by the fire have been asked to head to the parking lot of the Safeway at 3350 Mission so they can check in with and receive help from the Red Cross.

Area residents are also being encouraged to close windows and doors to avoid the heavy smoke that's filled the air.

According to the SFMTA, the 14 and 49 lines, both of which typically travel down Mission, have been disrupted by the fire, and are being routed around the scene.
