An 84-year-old man is fighting for his life Tuesday morning, after the car he was driving hurtled off a cliff near Ocean Beach.

Police say that the man was driving a white Toyota Camry "at a high speed" south on 48th Avenue near Anza Street, right by Sutro Heights Park at 3:23 Monday afternoon.

Police say that the man "somehow" went off the road, and flipped down the steep embankment just off 48th Avenue, eventually landing in the trees and a "large bush" above Ocean Beach.

CBS5 reports that the Camry took several power lines out on its way down, and that live wires sat on top of the vehicle as fire crews worked to rescue the driver.

The man, who has not been identified, was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening neck and back injuries. As of publication time, there's been no update on his condition.
