The San Francisco Police Department has made an arrest in a weekend shooting that left a woman dead — and according to police, the slaying was a case of domestic violence.

As previously reported, SFPD officers were called to a home in the 100 block of Apollo Street at 5:40 Saturday morning on reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found 43-year-old Lisa Broussard suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. She died at the scene.

That night, the Ex reports, 32-year-old Everick Stephenson was arrested in San Leandro for the shooting, after officers spoke to "several witnesses at the scene who police believe could implicate him in the case."

Though Stephenson’s relationship to Broussard "is unclear," he was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence, murder, two counts of firearm possession by a convicted felon, destroying evidence and a parole violation.

According to anti-domestic violence advocates, San Francisco's last domestic violence homicide was on October 10, 2014, when 35-year-old Cecilia Lam was shot by her boyfriend just hours after he was released from jail. She died four days later.

“It is sad to think that another case has come up,” Police Commissioner Sonia E. Melara tells the Ex.

"That goes to tell us that the issue of domestic violence is alive and well in our community. As long as guns are available to people, it will continue to happen.”
