The homicide that occurred last Tuesday night in Visitacion Valley now comes with some tragic details. The victim, who was shot while sitting in his car at the intersection of Sunnydale Avenue and Sawyer Street, has been identified as 33-year-old Da Cong Wu. As CBS 5 reports, Wu was was trying to shield his mother from an armed robbery and speed away from the scene when seven shots were fired into his vehicle.
The incident occurred one block away from the notoriously dangerous Sunnydale Projects.
The suspect allegedly "stuck a gun in his mother’s face" and Wu responded by shoving her into the car and trying to get away. He was declared dead at the scene.
He leaves behind a wife, Teng Fang, who says she speaks no English and only got to San Francisco two years ago. They have two children. Wu had been employed as a truck driver.
This was SF's sixth homicide of the year.
The suspect remains at large, and as always the SFPD is seeking information, and if you have any you should call 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the start of the message.
