It turns out Popeye's on Divis wasn't under threat at all, despite the mysterious remodel the space was undergoing last week. The fried chicken emporium reopened Tuesday with a spiffy new look, and as Hoodline reports, things are basically the same except for the remodeled interior, and they've rebranded as Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen instead of the former Popeye's Chicken & Biscuits.

The rebranding is something the national company has offered as an option to franchisees across the country, and the Washington Post did a piece about the upscaling last year. The chicken chain is doing better than ever, and reportedly all the stores that have undergone the rebranding and remodel (60 percent all stores nationally) are doing better sales as a result.

You can look in the future for some new menu items like the Wicked Chicken fingers with some sort of Tabasco dipping sauce, though it doesn't look like those are available here yet.

In any event, the hangovers of all Divisadero area hip kids will still have Popeye's to cling to for the foreseeable future. Crisis averted.
