One of Northern California's most glorious buildings is the Tribune Tower in Oakland, which has been through many hands in the past century and is now undergoing a slow-but-swanky renovation.

As part of this weekend's MacroCity conference, a small field trip of adventurers climbed rickety ladders to the top of this 25-story architectural gem. Our guide was the man responsible for restoring and maintaining the tower's neon signs, and truly The World's Most Interesting Man, John Law. Lots more pictures of the adventure are here.

A few tickets are still available for Saturday's conference festivities, with speakers including legendary ephemera archivist Rick Prelinger, infrastructure guru (and Bernalwood blog proprietor) Todd Lapin, Wired contributing editor and skyjacking, um, enthusiast Brendan Koerner, and many more.
