A homeowner, 56, was injured after exchanging gunfire with an intruder, 23, on Wednesday night in Oakland.

"The violent confrontation happened about 10:50 p.m. Wednesday at the home in the 3100 block of Eastman Avenue near Brookdale Park," reports Oakland Tribune. "Police said the suspect, armed with a rifle, forced his way inside the home where he took a cell phone before confronting the resident, who was able to get a pistol."

During a brief but jarring bout of gunplay, the victim took a shot to the shoulder, while the suspect got hit in the torso. Both as expected to recover from their wounds.

Also, another man was shot in a separate incident that day during a drive-by shooting on Foothill Boulevard.

Wednesday's trio of shootings come on the heels of the murder of one this year's youngest victims. A 1-year-old boy and his 20-year-old father were shot and killed as they slept inside a bedroom of a Brookfield Village home.Someone had entered the backyard and fired into the house.

No arrests have been made.
