Something may have been in the stars regarding cars and busses colliding with humans this past weekend, as there were three separate incidents and two fatalities involving pedestrians one on Lombard Street, one on Hayes involving a 21 Muni bus, as well as an incident on Saturday afternoon witnessed by SFist at Market and Castro.
A pedestrian was struck and injured while crossing Market Street at Castro, on the uphill side of the intersection, around 3 p.m. on Saturday, as witnessed by SFist just as police and an ambulance arrived. The female victim appeared to be unable to move, according to Twitterer Katie Mack, and was moved onto a stretcher. We're seeking an update on the incident from the SFPD, but so far no news outlets have reported on it.
The Hayes Valley incident occurred on Sunday morning, as we reported earlier, and involved an unidentified man who allegedly stepped out from between parked cars into Hayes Street near Fillmore. He was struck by a passing 21-Hayes bus, and the Muni driver has since been put on non-driving status pending an investigation. Arriving EMTs performed CPR on the man, who was declared dead at the hospital at 11:15 a.m.
The Lombard Street incident occurred Sunday night around 8:45 p.m. when a pedestrian trying to cross the street between Van Ness and Franklin was fatally struck by a passing car. The driver of the car remained at the scene and was reportedly cooperative. But yes, tragic.
