More sad news for the LA-to-SF high-speed rail line: House GOP members adopted an amendment late last night that "would prohibit California from receiving any high speed rail money in a huge five-year transportation bill headed to the House floor next week." Terrific.
It's still not a done deal, and CA Senator Barbara Boxer has her own transportation bill trying to get out of a House/Senate committee, and perhaps a compromise can be reached before the current transportation bill expires at the end of March.
But as SFGate blogger Carolyn Lockhead points out, it certainly doesn't bode well for future federal funding for the $100 billion project if the GOP holds on to control of the House.
