Scott Mitchell, the 40-year-old man from Sebastapol who tried to take a shortcut to the Embarcadero from Church Street in his Ford SUV last month, had a blood alcohol concentration nearly three times over the 0.08 legal limit in California. According to an assistant district attorney, Mitchell's BAC tested at 0.20 three hours after he finally rammed his vehicle in to the side of the tunnel.

As one forensic toxicologist explained to the Examiner, Mitchell's BAC was probably somewhere in the 0.245 range during his subterranean joyride. In related news, we also learn today that the probably wasted Mitchell sped in to the Muni tunnel at an impressive 40 mph. Which is kind of amazing, but don't take that as an invitation to get hammered and drive in to the underground.
