Drivers taking the Bay Bridge for Oakland during Memorial Day Weekend will encounter a "slight" detour during the holiday weekend. "The detour will occur just west of the Bay Bridge toll plazas, and will allow construction work to be carried out on a 1,000-foot-long stretch of the bridge referred to as the Oakland touchdown," reports the Examiner. "Without the detour, eastbound motorists would have spent an extra six months driving on the old span." Which is to say, eastbound drivers will have to veer to the right before emerging from the double-decker portion of the bridge. Our advice: Take BART. Or, if pressed, just stay in San Francisco. [Ex]
