Oh dear. This doesn't sound like a good idea. Eye On Blogs has word that the city of Walnut Creek will hold a pro-Johannes Mehserle rally next week. The Mehserle trial, which devolved into a Team Edward/Team Jacob-like race debate in the Bay Area, divided Oscar Grant supporters from that chaff. This rally could, it seems, make one hell of a sensational story if it explodes into fisticuffs and righteous indignation. Or not.

The Facebook invite explains:

Anyone who supports Johannes and our Law Enforcement Officers may attend. This is a PEACEFUL rally to show our support for Johannes, his family, and our law enforcement officers. This was a tragic mistake that occurred while on active duty.

This rally is NOT about inciting violence, destruction, intolerance, hatred, racism, riots or to upset the Grant family. If your intent is to do these things then please stay home. People who support law enforcement and Johannes have just as much right to rally together with other believers to have their voices heard and support one another.

Interesting.

The pro-BART cop rally, which is sure to bring out the sanity-estranged from both sides, happens next Monday, July 19, between 2 p.m. -- 5 p.m. at the Walnut Creek Courthouse 640 Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek.

Side note: Why would anyone in their right mind be Team Jacob? His body temperature is too hot, his skin doesn't sparkle in sunlight, and he turns into an abusive dog. The world, it confuses.
