We got a little snarky about the sinkhole reportage in Richmond from last month, but this, ladies and gentlemen, is a sinkhole.

This massive hole made at least one three-story building disappear in Guatemala City this weekend following rains from Tropical Storm Agatha. According to a geologist, the hole appears to be about sixty feet in diameter and thirty stories deep.

This isn't the first time such sinkholes have appeared in Guatemala, with images getting around just three years ago after rainfall and a suspected ruptured sewer line caused a similar sinkhole to appear in 2007. Looks like, yeah, Guatemala is not sitting on very solid ground. [National Geographic, photo courtesy of Paulo Raquec]
