Tim Schafer (@TimOfLegend) sent out two unnerving Twitter messages this morning. A crime, it seems, occurred on the J Church during the AM commute.
"Holy crap! A guy just pulled a gun on a lady and took her iPhone on the J Church!!! WTF?"
And:
"Someone chased the mugger down the block until the dude stopped, turned around, and waved his gun at him." [PIC]
Anyone else witness what went down? We'll update as soon as we know more.

Thank god they have those cameras on the muni met....oh wait.
I hope they both paid a fare.
No fare evasion!!
Ever!!!
My friend was mugged on the N for her iPhone on Weds. Also heard about a girl being chased by muggers around 15th and Church. Tough times. Be careful out there. Hope the folks doing this are caught.
I carry a gun. So, if anyone steals my iphone, I can kill myself as there would no longer be a reason to live.
hilarious :)
Nice, Porkbun! hahahahah
At what point on the J line did this happen?
"At what point on the J line did this happen?"
At the point that she started to annoy other passengers with her conversation.
This is really but still funny:

I meant to write: really old.......
judging just from the architecture barely glimsped in the photo it would seem like its somewhere East of 24th towards 30th...
I would like to salute the Charles Bronson like fellow who gave chase - but what did he think was going to be the result?
Damn something like this went down weds too. Wasnt there but heard from my good friend. This dude grabbed chicks phone and ran off muni, but my buddy ran after him. Catches up, grabs his hood and dropped him with a punch, got the phone back to the girl(who was freaked out crying). Took off before the cops came, but hopefully attempted mugger got arrested and a good black eye..
should have kicked him in the balls for good measure.
why did they chase him rather than jump-kick him in the back as he was leaving the train?
I've been witness to one of these muggings on the 9 and it happens so fast, it takes a second for people to react to what exactly is happening. when 2 thugs were wrestling with a dude's iPhone on the bus, eventually others got involved trying to pull them off the guy and the thugs ran off the bus without getting the phone.
"waved gun" usually means b.b.gun that looks real enough to scare most San Franciscans who have never seen/fired a real gun, broken gun that doesn't work or poor ass, crackhead who can't afford bullets.
not that I would take the 25% chance that it was real and he had it loaded.
besides, most career criminals know the system and they get a lesser sentence if the gun isn't loaded.
be careful out there peeps, 'tis the season to get mugged...
they get a lesser sentence if the gun isn't loaded.
I was thinking about that as well. The sentence enhancement for using a gun in the commission of a crime is rather stiff - I just don't see how an iphone would be worth 5+ years in jail.
in other news, some bad shit is going down right now in a poor neighborhood, where no one nearby has twitter and so we will continue to not hear about it and instead sit shiva for this poor girl who lost an expensive luxury consumer product.
"I just don't see how an iphone would be worth 5+ years in jail."
I'll assume that "poor ass, crackhead" is not exactly your demographic.
; )
perique - have you had a gun pointed at you?
If not - STFU.
yes, yes i have, by criminals tyring to mug me on two coasts. i've also been mugged at knife point, and i've gotten jumped a few times.
Twitter is for snitches.
Hear hear!
That was in reply to the original comment made by periqueblend. Sorry, a little late to the conversation.
Maybe related?
"27th & Church,Noe Valley: 5 police cars around the J station; 3 cops canvassing 27th St w/ guns drawn, lkg in trash cans & alleyways. WTF?!"

That's definitely it. Corner of 27th and Church, 2 blocks from my house and my usual stop. Awesome.

i walked down mission today instead of church. counterintuitive.
Ugh, terrible story. City Hall and the SFPD are attempting to address these awful crimes on Muni. Supervisor Dufty (whose district includes a long portion of the J-Church route) is holding a hearing Monday at City Hall.
Details:
The hearing will take place at the City Operation and Neighborhood Services (CONS) Committee on Monday, November 23rd at 11:00 in room 250 of City Hall.
too bad Gavin's busy being pissy with the press and acting like a jerk...maybe if we had executive leadership, we might try and do something.
fortunately we have Sup. Dufty to step in while the progressives and the mayor act like like goofuses.
So if we own a Google Phone are we safe?
It just looks like a POS sidekick with the slide out keayboard.
break yo'sef, foo!
oh nm hahahhhhahha nerd
Can your iphone defend you from crackheads? Droid does.
Muni may want to start an ad campaign that sells the advantages of riding BART to muggers: 1: There are a bevy of resalable goodies coming in from the suburbs, especially during commuting hours – laptops, handheld video games, personal DVD players, gagillion dollar bicycles, i-__(madlib)__s, etc. etc. 2: BART police really have to watch their step these days. 3: It's cheaper to ride through the city. Just a suggestion.
Good thing my phone's a piece of shit.
where's the iphone gun app when you need it
hi boredpeon,
my friend forwarded this story to me. i am the one who got robbed in this story and for your information, i was merely reading the news on my phone. no need to be a jerk.
robinsf,
yeah, it could have been a bb gun. hadn't thought of that.
