Dan Lay thinks gay men sniff anuses. Strange.
Radio station 92.7, once a gay-friendly station brimming with synthetic beats, was bought by new owners in September. Said new owners fired most of the staff and talent, replacing them with, for lack of a better word, dreck.
The new owners were also hot with accusations of homophobia after firing popular morning radio hosts Fernando & Greg (who can now be heard here.)
This morning, 92.7 was yet again accused of hating on the gays. Local listener Scott Oswald reports that KREV 92.7 morning show host "Elvis" (nee Dan Lay) made an surprisingly unfunny fag joke on the air. Sending SFist and a few local notables a terse email over this morning's show, Oswald reports:
Today, the host of the Dog House Morning Show, Elvis, yelled homophobic slurs at a person he called as a "prank". Elvis is the stage name of Dan Lay who broadcasts from Las Vegas as part of the Dog House Morning Show airing in San Francisco on KREV and in Las Vegas on KFRH. During the broadcast, Elvis yelled at the person who answered his call accusing him of stealing an NFL team flag from his car. The startled man he called said he didn't steal the flag and added that doesn't even watch football. Elvis replied "What kind of man doesn't watch football. What are you a (bleeped out by station)?" The man hangs up at this point. Elvis calls him back and a woman answers the phone. Elvis says "Where is that butt sniffer I was just talking to?" He goes on to yell at the woman and then calls another person and makes fun of his accent.
Worse than the butt sniffer joke or gay slur, the DJ's name is "Elvis" and the show is called "Dog House Morning Show. It's like a bad Family Guy parody come to life, something even Howard Stern would meh at after hearing. Very unoriginal.
Anyway, while this kind of hilarity is nothing new to morning radio, it is a bit of a shock for those of us used to the old 92.7, for those of us living in the SF bubble.

Did the new owner(s) do NO market research before buying the radio station? Like maybe researching the fact that San Francisco is probably more liberal and gay friendly than it's Las Vegas counterpart? FAIL.
Worse still, this guy was doing offensive anti-asian jokes until he got kicked off the air in NYC. Let me see, if I was going to put a morning show in San Francisco, someone that offends asians and gay people might not be my first
Why do market research? You just pay your PG&E & Sutro Tower bills, plug the station into the ethernet to get the same crap as 300 other stations, and cash the checks that come in. Who cares if anyone listens?

How else are people going to find out that the station exists? He probably gets a bonus for whatever amount of controversy he generates.
Erasing 92.7 from my car pre-sets saves me from even accidentally listening to this station now.
Anyone who still listens to broadcast radio at this point is exactly the kind of ignorant hillbilly who would listen to this guy.
Seriously, get an iPod, get a Zune, get internet radio... really anything is better than the shit ClearChannel and friends have flooded our "public" airwaves with.

I hate the new format. Used to love the morning show on this station, and my wife used to listen to it all day at work.
I love local radio, but this station sucks.

based on the photo of that guy, it looks like he was the one who had to "consume the cracker" at the end of the frat house initiation ritual.
..and this is the reason why terrestrial radio is dead. The "SF bubble" is precisely the reason why I am beginning to dislike my native city, the city which I once loved. Thanks for destroying any pride left I have for this town.
