Proving that Coke is better than its rival -- do any of you really prefer, say, Diet Pepsi over Diet Coke? If so, please explain yourself -- a Pepsi delivery truck and a female cyclist collided this morning, causing Muni delays in the upper Haight.
A woman bicycling on Haight Street between Clayton and Belvedere was injured in a crash involving multiple delivery trucks between 9 and 10 a.m. today. Details are still unclear, but according to an eyewitness account, she was taken away in an ambulance, conscious but with apparent injuries to her legs. The eyewitness, Jose Luis, said the woman appeared to dodge out of the way when a delivery truck abruptly opened its door, causing her to ultimately collide with another truck, the Pepsi truck shown in the pictures here. The Pepsi truck was either parked or moving slowly when the bicyclist collided with it.
The cyclist is expected to live, and was reported to be conscious and chatting on a cell phone after being pulled screaming from the parked truck. Go to Streetsblog for the entire story.

Scary.
Look before you open your doors folks!
Wow, I hope the delivery truck guy knows better than to do that in the future, otherwise he shouldn't be driving for a living. Hope she recovers soon.
But more importantly, as someone who guzzles down several cans of Coke Classic daily, Diet Pepsi is way better than Diet Coke. Granted, both are disgusting, but the weird aftertaste of Diet Coke is nastier than Diet Pepsi IMO.
Yeesh. That sucks. Hope she's not too badly hurt.
This is something that scares me about riding a bike here -- the bike lanes are right next to parked cars, so it seems like opening doors are a huge hazard. Bikes are allowed full use of the lane on all streets, right? Even streets with those skinny little bike lanes?
best wishes on a speedy recovery.
Yeah, bikes are always allowed full use of street lanes as bikes are considered vehicles.
So if you're riding a street w/o bike lanes, make sure to stay out of the "door zone." And if you're riding a street w/ a bike lane, maintain the same ~3 feet of distance from parked cars.
One thing you learn to do, as a cyclist, is to scan parked cars for folks on the driver side who look like they're about to open the door.
If there isn't room to ride in the bike lane and stay far enough to the left to avoid doors then you should be in the next lane over.
I ride a bicycle and motorcycle and on my bike I don't really worry about doors. On my motorcycle however, that's one of my top concerns. I usually hug the line to avoid just this but when you're riding a bicycle, you get pushed over by the cars.
I hope the woman is ok.
Those soft drinks will kill you.
