Castro Gay Men to Tom Ammiano: "Stay Out!"

Oh geez.

Looks like a smattering of gay men in the Castro -- a neighborhood famous for its refinement, restraint, and good taste -- are livid at Asm. Tom Ammiano over his heckling of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger during Wednesday night's San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee Gala.

Hm.

Also, one small correction: gay men don't have manners so much as they use manners as a weapon. But that's an entirely different post altogether.

Gay men have manners except for when they leave passive aggressive notes like this one.

It's a passive-aggressive note only in the "passiveaggressivenotes dot com" sense. Really, it's not passive-aggressive at all: it's direct, unambiguous, succinct, and to the point.

and anonymous. crucial distinction, that.

Willie Brown is still mad about that write in campaign I see.....

So which side is the guy who posted this in The Castro actually on? Manners? I'll take equal rights first, thanks. Something tells me the Gov doesn't need any help standing up for himself. Oh, btw, The Community is getting the shaft from Sacramento. Where's your pole post about that?

OMG! Three cheers for the gays!

Somehow I doubt one guy with a printer speaks for the entire hood.

No no no, gay men have affectations.

Speaking of which, I am simply aghast at this sign's appalling typography. Times New Roman, stay out of the Castro.

It's the height of bad manners to point out someone else's bad manners. The gay who posted this sign would know that had he consulted with Emily Post first. Tsk tsk.

I guess then Tom should have cheered on the guy who is against gay marriage, against a Harvey Milk day, and pro ruining the state for everyone?

Sorry, but the time for playing nice with douchebags like Arnie are over - he's the one that's fucking the state up with collaborator Democrats...nice to know Tom's willing to call BS on those that need it.

It's really not just a gay issue; it's a manners issue. If Ammiano and others objected to the governor's appearing, then they should have just walked out.

I expect my elected representatives to act like adults. I don't want to be represented by people who act like 12-year-olds at a Saturday afternoon movie.

@Greg - not cheering on the unwelcome guest, but civilized action, such as turning one's back or leaving.

Tom Ammiano speaks for me, and if Willie Brown likes Republicans enough to bring one to a meeting, he can register as one himself.

Ha! I knew I was right. If I stood up to talk and someone yelled YOU LIE at me, you or a neighbor it would be considered very rude. When politicians do it it's both rude and a letdown to the society they're entrusted with representing. And like I said in an earlier post it's also "very last season".

I think the sign might be classified as ill-mannered. Shouldn't it have read: Tom Ammiano, please, if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all?

I don't get the vitriol in our politics. People who condemn Joe Wilson for saying "You Lie" to President Obama turn around and defend Mr. Ammiano's conduct towards the Governor. The situations are not exactly analogous but I would have preferred a more civil way of expressing one's disagreement in public.

It is too bad, because I like Ammiano.

“It is too bad, because I like Ammiano.”

Yeah. He’s a good guy.

Ummm....what about that pillow that reads, "If you don't have something nice to say, sit by me." Plus, I can guarantee that the person who put up that sign doesn't live in the Castro. So, stop speaking for those of us who do!

Yeah I think the person who made the sign does not live in the Castro. Why did this person put men in all caps? Is he/she trying to say that Ammiano is less of a man? Shouldn't the emphasis be on "manners"?

I live a few blocks from where that sign was put up. If Tom ever wants to come over to my place for coffee or brunch or something, I'd be happy to have him.

maybe tom saw how much money joe wilson made in campaign contributions after the big "you lie!" scandal and wanted in on some o' that action...

I can't wait to see him on the campaign trail so I can shout "Kiss my gay ass!" and "You lie" to him. I suggest that all of constituents do the same. Replace "gay" with "straight", "bi", "transgender", "queer" if you feel it is appropriate in your circumstance.

I want to read the post where gay men use manners as a weapon. Sounds like a hoot.

gay 'MAN.' Its one dude who was probably the same tard who posted the sign who also sent it into sfist in the first place. And I know plenty of gay men and women who don't have manners, so get off your horse sally.

FYI, the person who shot the image above, Andrew Warren, did not post the anti-Ammiano sign.

Maybe the sign poster could have included a Castro "Manners" class schedule.
