Fight on SF Muni Bus in Chinatown

"Just another day on Muni... fuc**ng Muni," relents the cameraman shooting this video of a fight between two women on a Chinatown Muni bus. (The 30 line, if we have to guess.)

The women, who have an all-out brawl on the bus, should have been arrested. Or something. You don't do this on the bus. Or anywhere, for that matter. They're vile public transportation ilk.

But where was the driver in all this?

Update: SFist asked Muni spokesman Judson True for his take on the bus fisticuffs. Describing the video as "pretty rough," he tells us that during unusually festive moments like the one above, "Operators are to notify OCC of assaults; OCC then notifies the SFPD which would respond" to the scene." True goes on to tell us that they are "investigating this incident" and have "identified the vehicle and related details."

Oh, and according to Muni, the fight happened on the 20 Columbus.

Update II: The folks at Muni Diaries have a partial translation of what went down. One bystander in Cantonese can be heard screaming, “Hit her, hit her, hit her, hit her until she’s afraid.” Ugh. What a vile thought process some people have.

hahaha, that took me back to middle school, those that instigated fights with others are all about making some noise, but when it comes down to it they can't fight for shit.

The driver? Ignoring the situation, as always. Its not like they need to do anything more than call someone on the radio to get help.

I was on a 24 and one guy was violently threatening the other. I told the driver to call someone and he wouldn't. I had to call 911 myself after the crazy guy followed the other out of the bus and on to the street.

you're better off fending for yourself on Muni. Even if it's reported by the driver, the cops wont show up for another 5-10 minutes.

The driver is not a policeman. The driver's first responsibility is to drive the bus safely through traffic. In this case, through Chinatown, and that's not easy.

Now, if the driver was aware of the escalating fight he should have done something to alert law enforcement and let them take down the bitches. However, the wait for said enforcement may be a while so it wouldn't hurt if someone just kicked the both of them off the bus for being jerks.

On the N, we had an incident recently with a guy carrying a mace..

http://www.njudahchronicles.com/2009/10/reader_mail_drama_on_the_n.html

"The driver is not a policeman."

This is an excellent point. I assume he/she radioed for help. Still, who gets into fistfights on a bus? At the very least, where are their senses of self-awareness?

I don't disagree that the drivers are not police officers, and that they should not be charged with keeping the peace. That said, according to Matier and Ross, the driver did not report the fight as he's (contractually if not ethically) obligated to.

Ahh muni, the great melting pot.

The term "culture bus" pops to mind.

More importantly, was that a dropkick that the Chinese lady unleashed on her aggressor? Me thinks so.
Anyone speak Cantonese (that's what it sounds like to my untrained ear) that can roughly translate?

Partial translation from Muni Diaries:

a bystander said in Cantonese something akin to, “Don’t get excited, talk to her slowly.” As the argument escalated and the women begin physically fighting, a second bystander said in Cantonese, “Hit her, hit her, hit her, hit her until she’s afraid.”
Creepy!

All you need to know is "FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! YOU ARE A STUPID! YOU ARE A STUPID!"

She was pretty clearly trying to tell the younger Chinese woman that the other woman started it, but it looks like the younger woman doesn't understand one whit of what she's saying either.

I'm more interested in how it started.

According to commenters on Muni Diaries, the Asian woman sat in a seat next to the black woman, who was "hogging" it, and the black woman started yelling at her.

Yeah, I just read that. Well, three sides to every story of course.

Yea, that's how it started. I ride muni frequently and there are always some assholes who think they deserve two seats so no one sits next to them, even on a crowded bus. im sure the black lady was at fault. besides she threw the first punch. im glad she got drop kicked.

I ride the 9 san bruno all the time when you see bunch of high school kids together always trying to start some shit, picking on a individual. No one said shit. I wish this group of chinese people were there.

And talk to their ass like this
Only bitches' talk shit (What)
Only bitches' talk shit (What)
Only bitches talk shit that's why we bustin' your shit
Only bitches' talk shit (What)
Only bitches' talk shit (What)
Only bitches talk shit that's why we bustin' your shit
We real niggas (what) you all hoes (you all hoes)
We real niggas (what) you all hoes (you all hoes)
We real niggas (what) you all hoes (you all hoes)
We real niggas (what) you all hoes (you all hoes)

- Lil Jon

This has got to be the Dirty 30, right?

I'd say so. HEY BROCK you forgot to say which line.

Gotta be the 30.

per SFGate - it was the always exciting 20 Columbus!

As far as I've experienced, neither the 9x nor the 20 go through the tunnel. 30 and 45 are the only ones, and only the 30 is articulated- 45 goes over union and can't handle the hill. 20 stops at columbus near transamerica pyramid. 9x goes via Kearny. This could also be the 30x.

9x goes through the Stockton tunnel on the way out towards San Bruno. Here's the map.

When "keeping it real" goes wrong.

Looks like that (black) lady’s mouth wrote a check her ass couldn’t cash.

A lot of people could have prevented that from happening.
And I kind of think that the bus driver did a good thing in keeping that bus moving. The only thing worse than having to hear (!)/see that fracas would have been if the bus was stopped and waiting for a cop because two adult humans couldn’t figure out how to share a seat.

FYI: next time Chun-Li from Street Fighter II starts her deadly kick attack, throw a fireball.

Arrrruuuukkken!

+1!!! Of all the muni filmstrips I've seen this one wins for kung fu action.

that's awesome...

you could also walk up behind a slow sonic boom...

Was that in SF or in Hong Kong?

oh, spysea...sometimes it's hard to tell the difference...

On another note, I think it's funny so many people are shouting "HIT HER!" in Cantonese.

This is most likely the 9AX. I used to ride the triplet all the time (15-30-45..15 don't go through anymore) and the 9ax to and from work. There's always tension on these buses once they make that turn onto Stockton because of the overcrowding. The non-chinese people are usually the first to complain (not all) but as someone that's bilingual in Cantonese, I'm used to hearing complaints from all sides in the morning.

I've seen a number of situations like this that came close to erupting into fighting but luckily never did. I think people need to be more vocal about stepping in and being a little more neighborly.

All someone had to was just yell "Chill the f@#$ out" instead of egging it on. And just so you know, don't go picking fights with Chinese people in Chinatown, just not smart to go where people have numbers.

This whole situation is deplorable, but is it wrong that I am so glad that the woman who threw the first punch is the one that got the biggest beat down?

"apparently the chinese lady wanted more room and the black lady was hogging the spot so i guess the chinese lady politely asked the black lady to move over a little but she didnt and then hell broke loose."

Probably the 9x, because I don't remember the 30 stockon having a 2 section buses. Granted I haven't taken the muni in a very long time. You can tell you in the back-end of the bus, but it is along the stockon street line. You can tell about quarter the way thru the video, they are in the tunnel with the tunnel light flashing by. It looks like they are heading into chinatown though.

Damn. I'd be bummed to be on this bus but that Chinese lady had fists of fury. Totally dominated the fight. The tigress, once uncaged, relentlessly pursued her prey and threw in a few kicks for good measure. I normally would not revel, but from reading the comments and seeing her body langguage about what she was trying to explain, apparently all the wanted was to sit down. Let's not forget she may have been yelling but did not throw the first punch. Justice served, for once, on the Muni.

She may not have thrown the first punch, but she was provoking the situation. From the youtube comments, it sounds like she might have been resting her arm on the other woman's bag or some such. IOW, they were both morons and they bought oughta spend a few hours in the drunk tank.

Reading the comments here on SFist makes me sad, as it's quite apparent that we haven't come very far since Kenneth Eng's diatribes about how horrible black (entitled Why I Hate Blacks) and white (entitled Why I Hate Asians) people are. 'Course it doesn't hurt that Asian Week has kept Eng's anti-Anglo "Why I Hate Asians" piece up on their web site.

http://www.asianweek.com/2007/01/12/why-i-hate-asians/

It seems like an odd title for an article written by an Asian Supremacist, but there are very good reasons why I hate many of my own kind.

The first thing I hate about Asians in America is how so many of them want to suck up to whites. I have had fistfights and verbal altercations with many who discriminated against me and my people. Sadly, however, the Asians who witness or hear about these battles often hate me for being “hypocritical,” and tell me that “two wrongs don’t make a right.” Do these sycophants think it’s “cool” to mindlessly side with whites and blacks? Is it not enough that we have to fight against discrimination? Now we have to fight amongst ourselves as well?

The second thing I hate about Asians is how little pride most of them have. This may be the result of societal brainwashing, but whatever the cause, it must stop. I am repulsed when I see Asian guys speak with British accents in an attempt to sound sophisticated. British people can’t be all that sophisticated if they don’t yet understand the concept of dental hygiene. I am also sickened when I hear Asian people imitate Negro slang in an endeavor to sound “ghetto.” Am I supposed to be impressed that such a person emulates the attitude of a supposed slum resident? More importantly, whatever happened to being yourself?

The third thing I hate about Asians is how apathetic many of them are in terms of honor these days. If I saw an Asian being stereotyped in a movie theater, I would immediately stand up and shout incessantly at the screen so that none of the white audience members could enjoy the film. When I saw a white man yelling at an old Asian woman a few months ago, I walked up to him and hollered slurs right back in his Aryan face. But most other Asians, I am disappointed to say, would rather just chuckle at their own stereotypes on screen and ignore the problems of their brethren. At the risk of sounding corny, whatever happened to the days of the samurai? When honor meant more than life? Whatever happened to the age of Sun Tzu when we used to kick ass?

Don’t get me wrong. I love the Asian race, but every race has its inferiors.

Of course having heard the really tired "black people all hate us" from an ABC ex-girlfriend, a variety of Chinese-American friends, Kenneth Eng, and a variety of recent Facebook comments... I'm not exactly surprised that Eng found it appropriate to pen such tripe.

How about Why I Hate Whites, Blacks, and Asians that hog 150% of a seat and then start throwing elbows out when their arms get brushed.

How about if you keep screaming at someone that they are a "stupid", you're likely to get popped?

for what it's worth, i've never seen an asian hogging seats.

Try the N-Judah.

Anyway, I've noticed that the vast majority of people, of all races, will move their shit when asked. "Seat-hogging" doesn't bother me unless they'd refuse to move.

I'm sorry, I just thought this was funny also. Near the very end of the video, you notice the older lady sneak onto to bus thru the back door and sit down...

FYI, the fight, according to Muni, happened on the 20 Columbus. Go figure.

that can't be the 20. for one the 20 does not have those double long bus models, for two they're going through a tunnel which looks like stockton street. it's either the 30 or the 45.

haha, I think the video has gone "viral." Saw some employees at the US Bank branch on Stockton St. watching the video on phone and re-enacting the fight, lol.

lol i cant resist
"i caint understaind yew!"
"go back to yer cunn-trey!"
"..whitepower!"

First of all (re: comments on the video, the woman who intervened is Asian American, not Chinese-American — how would you know? — and def. not just "Chinese.")

Second of all, this just confirms one thing. If muni doesn't run your ass down when you're a pedestrian, you will be killed on the MUNI as a passenger. You cannot escape the wrath of MUNI.

the woman who intervened is Asian American, not Chinese-American — how would you know? — and def. not just "Chinese."

Good point. Of course, there are a lot of aspersions being cast about here.

I think it was established that the Asian-American woman of a certain age was speaking Cantonese. Maybe an ethnic Chinese Viet or some other passport nationality, but I think "Chinese" is pretty fair.

Well,how do you know she's not Asian-Canadian?

I think the bus was definitely 30-Stockton line after I watched that video again and again. 1. That was a trolley bus, not a diesel bus, which shouldn't be 9X/AX/BX. How do I know? Take a look at the end of that video, the back door was the "Step-down" style door, which are not on those current "Articulated" diesel buses. 2. At the middle of the video, the bus was in the tunnel, so that shouldn't be 20-Columbus line. 3. From what I've known, Muni never runs that kind of two-section trolley bus on the 45-line. Trust me, it was definitely 30-Stockton line, but I can't see on which direction. I may guess it was the direction toward Chinatown...

Dear Cameraman: you are a total loser and a typical San Franciscan for sitting there on your fat ass doing absolutely nothing except envisioning what annotation you would later make to your viral video. Get up off your ass next time.

moral of the story to the public? get a fucking bicycle and free yourself from the asylum that is MUNI.

Yeah, no one ever gets angry or stressed or in a confrontation when they're on a bike.

Last time I biked to work I was nearly run over by a Muni bus and I broke my arm and wrist. I've road and mountain biked for years. I'm not biking to downtown ever again.

OMG. Suddenly I understand why the old chinese ladies push their way into doors of fresh trains on the Muni platforms:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article1368934.ece

Apparently queuing is not part of chinese culture.

lol, reminds me of what my boss told me. He's an old time San Franciscan. He said when they introduced diagonal street crossing in Chinatown, the city had to do a public service campaign to educate neighborhood residents. You still see old people jaywalking and darting in front of speeding cars and buses.

The black lady had spunk but the Asian lady had size and height. And even though her florescent 1993 Columbia jacket impeded her reach, she outmatched the black lady in the initial grappling. You could tell she had more invested in the fight than her opponent. By the time she unleashed her blitzkrieg punch assault to get through the black lady's defenses, it was all over. The Flying Cobra leg kicks and final karate chop just sealed the deal.

Oh and how ineffective was the skeletal hipster standing by the door with his too-large shades?

That was absolutely awesome. I don't care what started it all but that one women clearly stated "blah blah blah you won't walk off this bus", then clearly got treated. kicks and everything. asians FTW.

Hey Brock, this happened on the 30-Stockton. You were right at first.

My worst experience was on a 27 when a guy started screaming at the top of his lungs about abortionists and homosexuals and the end of the world. When several passengers asked the bus driver to make him stop, the driver pulled out a Bible and said that he couldn't, indicating he agreed with the man.

If it bothered you so much, you could have filed a complaint against the driver. Muni is a bit more responsive to those ever since the Dan Noyes expose.

Man this has gone super virus viral. It’s also on gawker.com and dlisted.com with almost 99,000 hits from the original video and 18,000 on the translated video.

This was taken during the morning commute, right? So, assuming that everyone here is commuting to work chances are they are going to bump into each other again on the bus on their way to or from work.

“Oh, Hi there. Hey remember that time you kicked my ass and over 100,000 people saw it, even my grandma in New York saw it and called me. Anyway, I was out of line and wanted to apologize for my behavior, that’s not the way my momma raised me. No hard feelings.”

I'm surprised that no one has commented on a bigger problem in this area besides the lack of muni drivers noticing violent activity occurring on their own busses or sfpd not really making anyone feel safe in broad daylight (every walk down 6th street aka "crack head row"?). NO ONE HAS COMMENTED ON the outward aggression and intolerance of the Black community and the Asian community towards each other.

As a person who rides the muni every single day, every single day I witness Blacks and Asians always about to get into a fist fight over something. There is huge minority battle going on daily, hell hourly!, on public transit. CBS 5! Where is your insider report on that??

Why hasn't someone reported about that fact that you have an Asian community here. Huge, many who don't speak English or frankly care to. And a huge non Asian population that doesn't know anything about the opposites' way of life. It seems that these two communities barely tolerate each other. There's no integration, no acceptance, no communication.

Do you blame the ignorance of non-Asian Americans of their Asian neighbors' culture and lifestyle? Or do you blame an Asian community that seems to be perfectly okay isolating themselves from clear communication with everyone who isn't from their native land? Either way, something needs to be done.

As a Black person, I'm tired of seeing Asian women grip their purses when a Black woman comes to sit near them. I'm equally disgusted by Black women cursing out a little old Chinese lady who's carrying 30lbs of groceries, just trying to grab a seat before the bus moves, and accidentally steps on her Nikes. It's ridiculous.IT IS RIDICULOUS!!! And I can't be the only one who feels this way.

San Francisco has this great reputation for being equal rights and free spirited and welcoming. Well it isn't nearly as peaceful, loving, and serene for those who ride the MUNI everyday.

Huge, many who don't speak English or frankly care to.And a huge non Asian population that doesn't know anything about the opposites' way of life. It seems that these two communities barely tolerate each other. There's no integration, no acceptance, no communication.

It depends where you go in the City. Asians in the Sunset & Richmond are middle class, tend to speak more English, have gone to college and are from families that have been in San Francisco for more than a generation (ie Ed Jew, oops I forgot he lived in Burlingame!).

Chinatown is densely populated, has concentrations of poverty and lots of immigrants. The CCSF Chinatown campus offers a ton of ESL and citizenship classes. There is a huge demand. Younger people (working age adults) make the effort to learn English, the old people (with their prejudice) not so much.

The racial tension isn't a generational thing at all. While I see interracial (specifically black and asian) couples all the time, having someone look me in the eyes and tell me in perfect, unaccented English that "black people all hate us, they always pick on us" sticks with me.

The comments here are very telling. Everyone's quick to condemn the black woman's actions (and rightfully so, throwing a punch is almost always a stupid idea)... but so far I've not seen anyone call out the chinese woman for her taunting. Even the United States Supreme Court has found such speech indefensible. It's called the "fighting words doctrine", look it up.

having someone look me in the eyes and tell me in perfect, unaccented English that "black people all hate us, they always pick on us" sticks with me.

Who knows what experiences the person that told you this had in her past. But there's a pretty good chance that person or a loved one had more than one bad/traumatizing encounter with a black person.

I've had bad experiences with black people (gun pulled on me, robbed, racist taunts) but I've always chalked it up to city living.

Very good points.

As much as TV would love to have you believe that race relationships in America only involve Blacks Vs Whites, I live in a city where there’s a lot more races than those two and a lot more race conflicts that are never really talked about.

I mean, Ice Cube put out a song about how he wants to get all David Duke and burn down Korean shop owners to the ground and he still gets Hollywood endorsements.

Try being someone that looks like Ashton Kutcher and putting out a song like that and see what it does to your career.

Blacks have had it rough. Yes. But so have the Chinese. But I don’t see any of the Chinese complaining and crying racism as much as Blacks do. And honestly. I don’t see ANYWARE as many Chinese on Section 8 as Blacks. I don’t see ANYWHERE as many Chinese in jail as Blacks. And more importantly, I don’t see the Chinese culture accepting either of those as being “OK” where in the other culture it’s almost expected as a rite of passage.

I know. You want to get all bent and rail on me for stating the obvious.

I’m not gonna hold that against you.

The only thing I ask is you want to attack me is a single thing –

How many Section 8 people have you ever lived next too?

Fire at will -

And how do you know who's Section 8 and who's not? Last I checked, you don't have to tell anyone if you don't want to.

Why should the chinese lady be arrested, for standing her ground? the black lady was the aggressor and threw the first punch, she got the beat down she deserved.

what a load of horseshit OSV. There's a key difference in your two scenarios. The asian lady is well within her rights to take whatever precautions she wishes. she's not harming or interfering with anyone. Can't same the same about the black woman in you scenario.

How about a wager. I'll give you a dollar every time an aggressive asian starts crap on muni, you give me a dollar every time a black person starts crap.

A one on one very fair fight, in any other ethnic hood it would have escalated to 10 on 1 free-for-all with plenty of cheap shots. Chinese lady has balls the size of wontons.

Both ladies should be fined for disturbing the peace cause we know both the city and muni can use the cash for security.

that black lady should be ashamed of her punch.
she had a clear shot and could've knocked down the asian lady but, alas, crouching tiger came out and showed her who was boss.

this is the best fight scene i've ever scene!
the clip ended with the doors closing on the woman who got her ass beat!
i mean, how perfect it that?

thank you, film guy. :)

Yeah, I was actually waiting for the bus to drive away after the doors closed...that would've been the perfect ending.

"get her back, effing stop it, that's immature"
She would have understood you if you spoke to her in your native tongue. Shhessh, how easily we forget where we come from.

On another topic, notice how the Chinese lady places her mooncakes gently down on the chair before the throw down.

You make a big assumption that she speaks Chinese or specially even the same dialect of the Chinese...

Ugh, this is one of the more poisonous comments threads on SFist in a while. Some SFGate-level shit.

agreed.

folks, please try keeping the sweeping generalizations and racial bile to a bare minimum.

this fight wass about two stupid people acting stupidly. period. go from there.

So what have we all learned?

See how the Bitch cheesed up when the Asian got in her face ready to throwdown. The Black Broad is talking alot of shit, but got scuuurrred when her yelling wasn't doing shit LMAO

BROCK, why did a woman almost half of your size have to break that up while you sat by and gleefully filmed it. Those were two older ladies??? I am actually kind of disgusted that you sat and did nothing, and then recognized the young lady for her heroism.

At one point the lady said "someone grab her" and you sat motionless, recording the drama so that you could race home and share it online. I certainly hope you are not around if I am ever in need.

I didn't film this. I wasn't even on the bus at the time of the incident.

See what you started Brock? Do you see the poison that results from your eagerness to film people acting ugly and then share it for a few laughs?

Read these disgusting posts.

You need to take a look in the mirror bro.

THE WHOLE THING IS SO GHETTO AND STUPID. BOTH OF THE PEOPLE (IT IS OBVIOUS FROM LOOKING AT THEM) WERE BR0UGHT UP AS TRASH. IT WAS NOT A RACE ISSUE AT ALL AS FAR AS I CAN SEE, IT WAS JUST 2 IMMATURE PEOPLE WHO LOOK TO HAVE TROUBLE IN THEIR LIVES.
I DO NOT LIVE OUT THERE SO I DO NOT KNOW FIRST HSAND OF THE PROBLEMS WITH MUNI, BUT IT LOOKS TO ME AS THOUGH MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO RIDE THAT SYSTEM SEEM TO BE EDUCATED PEOPLE JUST TRYING TO QUIETLY GET FROM POINT A TO POINT B. THEN YOU HAVE THE TRASH THAT EXISTS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY WHO FEEL THEIR DAY JUST ISN'T RIGHT WITHOUT SOME TURMOIL AND DO NOT KNOW HOW EASY IT IS TO FIND PEAC IN THEIR LIVES.
THE 2 WOMEN INVOLVED WERE ACTING LIKE ROTTEN CHILDREN INSTEAD OF THE MATURE ADULTS THEY WANT PEOPLE TO SEE THEM AS.
I DOUBT IF IT WERE A RACIAL THING GOING ON, ESPECIALLY SINCE NO ONE JUMPED IN AND TURNED IT INTO THAT KIND OF THING. IT WAS JUST 2 STUPID BITCHES BEHAVING BADLY AND EMBARASSING THEMSELVES IN PUBLIC.
I AM GLAD I WAS NOT THEIR, I HAVE JUST GOTTEN THROUGH CHEMO AND AM STILL WEAK FROM IT, BUT I DO NOT THINK IT WOULD HAVE STOPPED ME FROM GETTING UP AND GIVEN BOTH OF THEM THE BITCH SLAPPING THEY DESERVED FOR BEING SO LAME AND STUPID OVER A FREAKING SEAT ON A BUS.
MS. ROSA PARKS PROBABLY WOULD BE ROLLING IN HER GRAVE TO SEE HOW PEOPLE STILL BEHAVE OVER A SEAT ON A BUS. NO MATTER WHAT THE RACE IS. WHILE SHE DID WHAT SHE DID FOR HER COMMUNITY, IT WAS ALSO DONE FOR ALL TO HAVE THE RIGHT TO SIT ANYWHERE ON THE BUS.
NOW WOULD DO YOU THINK THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR DOES FOR A PERSONS IMMORTAL SOUL. DOES IT MAKE THE EVOLUTION OF THEIR SOUL GO IN THE POSITIVE DIRECTION IT I MEANT TO OR DOES IT PUT THE 2 OF THEM BEHIND IN THEIR PERSONAL EVOLUTION.
I THINK SOMEWHERE INSIDE THE 2 OF THEM THERE MIGHT BE A GOOD PERSON TRYING TO OVERCOME THE GHETTONESS OF THEIR BEHVIORS, YET THEY HAVE GOTTEN SO WRAPPED UP IN THE VIOLENCE OF BEING GHETTO THE GOOD PERSON CANT FIND THEIR WAY OUT.
IF THE 2 OF THEM CONTINUE ON LIKE THIS, THEY MAY FIND THEMSELVES LIVING A HORRID LIFE INSTEAD OF THE ONE THEY WANT. I THINK THIS GOES FOR ALL OF US WHO SEEM TO THINK BEING VIOLENTLY GHETTO IS COOL.
PLUS AT THEIR AGE (THEY SEEMED YOUNG) THEY SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR WAYS TO HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THIER YOUTH, BUT TO ME THESE 2 WILL I THINK CONTINUE TO THINK THAT KICKING ASS AND BEING A BITCH IS MORE IMPORTANT.
I AM NOT SURE HOW I GOT TO THIS SITE OR THE MOTIVATION TO POST MY VIEW, BUT I REALLY THINK THE 2 OWE ALL OF THE OTHER PASSENGERS AN APOLOGY FOR BEING SO RUDE AND RUINING WHAT MAY HAVE BEEN A PEACEFUL FUCKING DAY. THERE WERE MANY WHO DIDN'T WANT TO BE INVOLVED AND CHOSE TO IGNORE THEM, YET THEY HAD TO BE ON EDGE TO BE TAKEN FROM THEIR NORMAL TRAIN OF THOUGHT TO HAVING TO B READY SHOULD THE 2 START THEIR SHIT IN THEIR QUIET PATH.
I HAVE SEEN SO MUCH IN MY LIFE THAT WAS NOT VERY GOOD SO SEEING THESE 2 BEHAVING BADLY IS NOTHING NEW, BUT IT IS WHAT TURNS THEM ON I THINK. THEY ARE DRAMA QUEENS AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY (DUE TO BEING DRAMA QUEENS)THEIR LIFE IS SO HARD. THEY ARE JUST IDIOTS. DOEN'T MATTER IF THEY ARE ASIAN/ORIENTAL/WHITE OR PIN POLKA DOTTED PEOPLE, THEY ARE JUST IDIOTS. THE RACE CARD DOESN'T EVEN QUALIFY HERE

Please learn how to press "Tab" to indent. Secondly, typing with caps-lock on will ensure that almost nobody will read your comment.

Thank you.

Oh, honey, I disagree with you regarding race. For some reason, Chinese and African Americans don't generally get along. If this had been a caucasian lady who yelled at the Chinese lady, I think it would have been a different ball game. Plus, those women were way older than you think. They both knew better.

Whoa nellie. If I stare at this post for a minute or two, I can see a schooner!

Wow. I used to ride the 15 3rd/9X into and out of Chinatown every day. I've witnessed fights and muggings. The drivers don't do jack. I'm actually glad the Chinese lady stood up for herself. My hubby (who is Chinese) is always embarrassed that Chinese typically back down too much and don't like confrontation. Granted, most of the rest of the bus did that very thing. Kudos to the young lady that broke it up, too! I'd hope that would be me if there was ever a situation like that...granted, I'm a second-degree black belt so I hope I'd feel a little more comfortable stepping into a situation like that.

sorry about the cap lock thing, i type one of 2 ways, this isw the other. i am sure thewomen were in their 30's and knew what they were doing. that was sort of the point. they live on drama of the negative kind. now i came from a very old fashioned family. where many think it wrong today to back down when being confronted. in old times and in some places even now, it is called not stooping to the other persons level. the person who is causing the problem is bad, and lots of people used to think that by joining into the frucass you were lowering yourself, thus ruining your integrity.
i was impressed too by the lady who broke it up, that took alot of strength to do that.
since i do not live there and therefore do not use public transportation, i of course have no clue what it must be like. i am sure from what i have read it must be awful.
are there camera's on the bus that records everything?
Believe it or not, the behvior i am hearing of and saw on the video reminds me of school bus behavior but more violent of course.
the behavior is so high school in its way. the driver has to behave just the way a school bus driver has to in that they really have no power over the situation. I know that is wrong, but i think they are told to just keep on driving and the bad people will get off eventually. i worry that becasue the drivers are powerless that they might become targeted by bad people who feel that the driver is to take care of the problem. it is much like the bank teller in a robbery. they are trained to just give over the money. to not be a hero. the reason lies in the safety factor of the innocent bystanders. people have been taken hostage over the few thousand dollars in the tellers drawer. when the teller tries to play hero they jepordise everyones safety and their lives. i am sure the same thinking goes into the driver of the bus as well.
i have known of people who drove public buses in Detroit and you have to become hard very fast and yet your still left powerless to do anything when bad things go on. the driver being scared to death most often has to play hard to hide the vulnerability they feel due to being alone on a bus with a number of passengers who may or may not be nice people.
i have ridden bity busses before, not on long trips, nor everyday like the people in san fransico seem to have to do today. i road in the 70's and was a teenager. things i think were different then. people were different.
those 2 women probsbly run with bad people who may be in gangs, where the more fviolent you are the better.
it is a shame to see people use all that energy to be mean to esch other, when they could be using that same energy to do good things in the world or even in their own neighborhoods. just think what good could come of taking the money they spend on guns and knives. they could beautify their neighborhood, help a poor neighbor not be so poor, they could take that energy they use sometimes for graffiti and make art and sell it. all that energy that people use in bad ways could be turned around and transformed to something wondeful.
i know that i am dreaming here, but i am also hoping things will change.
now do not think i am a person who backs down, i am not. a few years ago i had a home intruder while i was outside. we had a huge snow fall earlier that day. it was the thursday before christmas 2004. when the man came out of my house i chased him and caught up with him and recovered my purse that he had stolen. i couldn't believe i did that and i was proud that i had done so, yet it was very foolish because he could have turned around and tried to kill me.
i think i threw him off gaurd by my looks. I have very grey hair and at a distance may appear older than i am, so therefore that must have thrown him, or the thought that i must be crazy and he was in danger may have scared him as well.
anyway the other thing i want to say is i just survived cancer, i had it everywhere in my body, several very large tumors and many smaller ones. the b cells of my blood were all cancer and the bone marrow. when i tell a health care person of where the tumors were and all the rest, they befcome very upset for me. yet it is completely gone and i hope it stays gone. it has been 10 months since i first heard the words "its gone"
My recovery is a miracle, and i saw many miracles this past year. it is hard to describe what it is like to have been so close to death and then to survive it. also things change in your outlook as well.
I think thst there really is no reason for people to act so trashy as those 2 women did.
i have never seen a racial thing with asians and blacks before and never heard of this problem. it seems not to just be racial it is also cultural. blacks are very vocal and artisic people. they are in your face so to speak, i do not mean this in a bad way. they have a very distinct cultural vibration that is not quiet like asians. asians vibration is soft and peacful like. it is almost like the 2 are opposites from what i am gathering from this and this being opposite seems to clash. I am very surprised to know they have a problem with each other. it would seem the 2 cultures could find a way to help the other understand thier ways. black people seem to be fascinated by martial arts and asians do mrtial arts as part of their culture. with that art come discipline and also a sense of peace. jus think if the 2 cultures found a way to work together and they alllearned martial arts. just think how strong our country would be having its citizens capable of protecting each other from the terrorists or other threats to our citizens.
i view this clash i have learned of here as a sad waste of portions of 2 cultures who have so much to offer each other.
where i see black people not being like asians who tend to stick to themselves instead of melting into the pot in our country, i see a good thing. while blacks still clash at times with whites, they still try to get along with whites as well.
the asians may work with us, but at the end of the day they go to their part of town and only socialize with each other. maybe this causes the clash.
also many people find it aggravating that certain nationalities will not speak english, and i am not just talking about asians.
white people do not like this not talking in the american language and i am sure blacks don't like it either. they may find that people who will not talk you you in your own language, epecially when they knwo they can will be very offended by it.
i know i have been offended when someone won't talk to me in english and have say their children do the taslking for them. then you ask something the child cannot answer and the parent all of a sudden starts talking fluid english. that pisses me off. i suppose i would find offence if it happened to me sll the time not so much against one person but the race as well. anyway it seems to me, that people do not want to get along as they should. it is so sad.
because like me you never know what will come along to trip you up in life naturally, and here we have to be violent with each other. it is so sad and so wrong

If I had a nickle for every time I saw an angry Asian/Black confrontation in this city...

Regardless of who said what, the black woman threw the first punch and the Asian woman was defending herself. It's all on tape too which helps her defense, assuming she needs one.

Being a former Muni worker, this act is obvious to me a more advanced statement of hostile occupation, by the foreign Chinese regime. At the yard that I worked, it is segragated. The bus cleaners are all US Citizens, while the mechanics are all Chinese. That field operative that attacked the elderly black woman approached me on the bus before. Her method of operation (MOB), is to first make offensive physical contact, to the extent of molestation. And, even if the elderly colored (Black) woman would have made a more less aggressive statement, this would not have prevented the operative from further advancing the physical assault. It is the operational intention of MUNI to depict individuals as pawns in its operatus of warship, and MUNI must be controlled at this level. The bus driver had no other option, other than to coverup this scandal, since blacks are a minority. And scapegoating the driver is a senseless and cowardly way, that won't provide more rights of protection for the US consumer riders. Face-up, racism in San Francisco isn't a Black White thing in San Francisco, it is the Majority Minority thing, and the minority is the United States of American Citizen.

Do you purchase your aluminium foil directly from Alcoa?

LMAO.

Not sure how many others will get it.

He would have been arrested under the Good Samaritan Law in Massachusetts. See Latham,Ma. v. Seinfeld et al, May 1998.

The fight started because the black lady was hogging two seats and she refused to let the chinese lady sit. So I guess they must have gotten into an argument over it.

I think the Bus Driver didn't want to do anything because it's either not his job or they don't get paid enough. Hell they don't care when people are entering from the back of the bus, I've seen that a lot in SF.

This was definitely not a race issue, it's funny how most of you thought it was. I know that most Americans might have a problem with Cantonese people because they're loud and probably annoying. But it's just how we normally talk because I'm cantonese too.

IMO, the black lady should've not been hogging the seats in the first place. She should've not escalated the problem and telling her that she could kick her ass. She should've not thrown that first punch either.

ok my story is a few years old. but taking the bus seems as dangerous as ever.

so I'm get on the bus downtown on market street. Its friday evening rush hour and the bus is packed standing room only. the driver makes anther market street stop, opens the door, and this black dude gets on holding a plate a chicken, a bowl of soup smoking a cigarette. he does not pay the fare. dude goes right up to a young white, blonde woman sitting down and starts screaming YOU ARE IN MY SEAT! this happened right in front of me. the woman get up from the seat. the dude makes her hold his bowl of soup while he sits down so he doesn't spill the soup, puts out the cigarette, takes the bowl of soup and starts eating the chicken from the plate in his lap.

For a transcript that provides English translation of all the Chinese in the SF MUNI fight video, see here: http://yingma.org/2010/01/03/chinese-woman-beats-black-lady-on-sf-muni/. Hope this clarifies for those who do not speak Cantonese and Taishanese (the two Chinese dialects used in the video) what in fact transpired during the fight.

This is amazing because I was on THIS bus!!! Saw this happen!!

The 30-Stockton, of fucking course!!!!
