Next to La King, Ross McGowan is one of our favorite local on-air personalities. Why? Because he smolders. Also, that low, appropriately condescending voice of his makes "Mornings On Two" that more special. And just look at those arms and broad shoulders! He's the kind of guy you would've wanted to split a baggie and open a bottle of poppers with back in the day. Smart dashing.

Anyway, The Chronicle's Matier & Ross have word that McGowan, who has been with KTVU for 15 years, will retire in October 2.

Before joining KTVU, McGowan hosted "People are Talking" with Ann Fraser. Growing up in Mill Valley, Cupertino and San Francisco, McGowan received a degree at San Jose State. He has won many accolades, including a Gold Award from the New York Film Festival, the Cable Car Award for Outstanding Broadcast Journalism, and the Communication Excellence to Black Audiences (CEBA) award.

Check out some of McGowan's best moments -- including his interview with a totally wasted Paula Abdul, and notorious bastard Charles Schulz -- after the jump.
