Guardian's 35th Annual 'Best Of the Bay' Released; We're Not On It

sfbg-best-09.jpg Not that we're pouting... certainly the good folks at Muni Diaries deserve some recognition, and we did take the Weekly's readers poll this year, so we're not sweating it either. But the SFBG Readers Poll actually has a number of respectable winners in the food category (no Pasta P for Best Overall here...) who we'd happily sit beside, like Delfina for Best Italian and Chez Panisse for Best Overall.

Among the editorial winners, there are a bunch of cheeky choices like Green Chile Kitchen for Best Drive-By Burrito (for their call-ahead, curbside service) and Kasa Indian Eatery for Best "Taco" in the Castro. Other notable wins include MissionMission for Best Virtual Mission, Mission Street Food for Best Restaurant Within a Restaurant, Pizza Zone & Grill for Best Late Night Pig-Out, Heaven's Dog for their talented impromptu bartending skills, Bender's for Best Free BBQ, and Slash Denim for Best Passed-On Jeans.

Check out the print issue if you can get your hands on one or see the full online listings here.

Great post, Jay.

Also, congrats to the fine folks at Mission Mission for getting some sweet SFBG love.

Guardian's 35th Annual Best Of SF Released; We're Not On It

Don't be sad... that's only because you never worked there.

And never advertised there.

Xenu! I wish there had been a category for best troll!

Sorry xyz123 -- that was meant for xenu, obvs. I hardly know you, although I like you already. I'm hoping it's hard to snag a Guardian on the streets lately because we're so popular. hoping ...

Troll or not, it's true -- these "best of" issues are nothing more than a way to pander to advertisers.

That's not true at all. Strange to believe in these days of cynical snark, but we actually are interested in what the people who live here think, and want to point out some of the things we love and think deserve a little attention. "Community" can actually mean something more than signing in to comment from Planet Mu.

nothing personal, but being interested in it is not the same as doing it. both SF weeklies are so lucky the onion folded here, because they were eating both of your lunches entertainment-wise. in politics it's a tossup between the two remaining. sorry.

What is up with getting a print copy of the guardian lately? If I don't pick one up first thing Wed morning, there are none to be found.

a couple of weeks ago I saw a woman with a grocery cart empty out an entire sf guardian newspaper dispenser at about 8:30 weds morning on pacific ave between battery and kearny.

i would've asked her what the fuck she was doing that for (great coupon perhaps? embarrassing 'alt.sex.column' question actually got printed??) - but alas, I saw the entire thing from the window of the mighty 12 Folsom.
