Film du Jour: Homophobic, Hateful Woman Holds Up T-Line

SFist reader Stephanie Chu sent us this footage of some choice Muni drama. In her words:

I filmed this on a MUNI T train this morning on my way to work. I found it appalling that this woman would be so hateful towards a gay/transgender person - so I had no qualms about putting her face on the Internet. At one point, it got physical. The train was held up for about 10 minutes until she calmed down, then the cops came to take their statements. I thought it might be interesting to share how intolerance is still very much alive, even in liberal cities like SF.

Apparently, she works at a hospital (she wore scrubs) off of the T line, I am guessing UCSF Mission Bay.

Hard to imagine not being on the receiving end of a serious beat down after screaming "faggot ass" on a crowded Muni train. Check out the footage after the jump.

Not so comforting to see that she's a nurse. Casting agent for Jerry Springer should give her a call.

what's more disturbing is how, as always, we, the citizens put up with psychotic crap like this, everyone's commute is ruined, and MUNI doesn't do a goddamned thing to fix the problem.

MUNI's beloved fare inspectors were worried about her rights to be an asshole on the bus, when she should have been kicked off the train, immediamente, so the 99.9% of folks on the train could just go to work or wherever without her bullshit screwing it up.

Why should we go out of our way to help people? California actually punishes good samaritans. Even when they are on some obscene ego trip, pop cops aren't real cops. Why should they risk life or limb?

point well taken, but Im talking more about how we, as San Franciscans, essentially have given the green light to anti social behavior, even this, and sometimes even encourage it.

I'm sure by next week this crazy bigot will have a support group protesting on her behalf. Sick.

Greg, I totally agree with you and I get mad when people just complain and don't even try to resolve matters. I was encouraged to see some people in this video starting to get mad, but I'm wondering what specifically anyone not involved with Muni can do in a situation like this (note: not "could do", but "can [and will] do" the next time this happens that will have positive results).

That leads me to wondering what could happen if the people involved in this altercation complain to Muni--write, call, email, and keep on writing/calling/emailing Muni until they respond to the complaints about not only this woman holding up traffic, but the Muni employee who has the authority to kick this woman off the train and chooses not to do anything. For starters, has anyone sent this video to Nat Ford or to the Muni complaint email address?

We don't know exactly what set her off...

(and who is going to be doing any beat down, and with what? purses?)

Some days I want to beat down whoever is running the SFist server.

the joke's on you: it's nobody!

Ah once a day, somewhere in our great city...

I hope her boss sees that insane rant and realizes what a liability she is.

I'm willing to wager they already do but, like everyone else, are too afraid to confront her as to make a bad situation worse, hope they don't hurt anyone until they've hung themselves with actionable evidence.

Let's just hope this video ends up in her HR file. If she works for UCSF, it will be there until the sun swallows the earth.

Okay I watched the whole thing and have no idea what happenned. Who was she fighting with? Was whatever they were fighting about resolved?

Even without context though, she seems a tad high-strung and potty-mouthed.

agreed. pretty difficult to tell what's actually going on here.

that said, did she utter one, just one, correct and properly formed sentence? her hate speech aside, good god, learn to speak english.

Same thing happened to me once. Some guy decided I was gay (note: I'm not) and started yelling at me as I got on Muni.

Of course, being the asshole that I am, I just provoked him further by telling him "you're not my type" and "please keep your dick in your pants."

Anyway, he got louder and louder until the Muni driver stopped and told him to get off. Eventually the police came and hauled him off.

I feel like if someone was in an argument with her and threw out the "n" work as much as she screamed faggot the consequences would have been so much greater and more people would have gotten involved.

I am equally sickened that as a person of color she has the audacity to throw around such derogatory terminology, especially in public. Shame on her. I hope all the internet sees this video and she is branded as the venomous hateful person she is.

how dare you compare hatred against minorities to hatred against gays?! lol

PS i hope this comment doesnt get repeated 2 or more times due to lame sfist website implementation

Why can we commonly throw out "faggot" but you can't type "nigger"? If one is as equally offensive as the other then they're either both fair game or they're both off the table.

Well, I am a faggot, so I feel like I can type it without feeling guilty. :P

"i gotta get to work, dog!"

"WELL THEN GET OFF DA BUS AND GO TO WORK!"

meh, she's just begging for an old-fashioned case of ostracization. everybody gang up and crowd her the fuck off the train like a pack of border collies.

How about a $500 fine for harassing other passengers, just like the fines that SHOULD be enforced for fare evasion, graffiti, and littering?

Sorry, I was just in Singapore where this sort of thing would NOT be tolerated.

Yeah, but in Singapore, homosexuality is illegal.

So is spitting gum on the sidewalk...

FYI. Scrubs do not necessarily mwan she is a nurse. She could be an animal care worker or any kind of hospital employee.

this bitch is tripping.
talk about a bad start to a day.

ugh homophobia... how late 1990s.

OK, I just watched the whole thing and I still don't know what happened. Some woman was very angry about something and said "faggot" a lot, that's all I can tell. Is there some additional information? What set her off? Who was she insulting?

If she was a white man yelling the n-word on the T-line, there would have been blood.

Exactly. So why isn't Obama inviting these two to the White House for a beer. Oh right, cause shouting faggot on a crowded train still isn't considered as socially wrong as offending someone of color.

Example #2 of why I'm upset that MUNI is shutting down N-Judah service on the weekends past Embarcadero Station. I'm not so afraid to ride the T-Third, but I can understand others being afraid.

Wait how why this get turned into a racial thing?

I don't think she's a nurse, and it should be noted that UCSF's Mission Bay campus doesn't have a hospital. Scrubs could indicate any number of professions. (Maybe she's the shampoo girl at a vet's office?) A clinical enterprise for Mission Bay is still in the early planning stages. Mission Bay is currently just a research campus. I've never seen anyone wearing scrubs down there.

Hey Willo! You definitely have a point and it was incorrect to assume she worked at a hospital.

(I'm the one who shot the video.)

She might work at SF General (a UCSF campus) and be getting off at the UCSF Mission Bay campus stop (Gene Friend Way) to catch the shuttle to SFG. It's a disturbing possibility that this hateful person is working with the public...
