Gay Pride Grand Marshal Lt. Dan Choi Faces Discharge

danchoi.jpg
San Francisco Gay Pride Grand Marshal Lt. Dan Choi, the Army National Guard officer translator and West Point alum who came out as queer "to protest the military's 'don't ask, don't tell' policy," could become the first New York National Guard member discharged for breaking the military's inane and bizarre policy on homosexuals. Or, as the military defines it, ousted "for 'moral and professional dereliction.'" A hearing today in Syracuse, NY at the headquarters of the 27th Brigade Combat Teamwill decide whether or not to rid the service of his esteemed and education, albeit gay, presence. According to AP, "Choi served as one of the grand marshals of last Sunday's LGBT Pride Parade in San Francisco, marching with a group called Knights Out, which supports gay military members."

I hope the discharge doesn't hit him in the eye or get stuck in his hair.

In a (brief) moment of seriousness, we should all applaud Choi. He's braver than anyone I know and an legit hero.

(Seriously, Obama, you want to kick this guy out of the Army? Just sayin')

But, but, I thought Obama was going to get rid of DADT. I thought he was going to be a fierce advocate for gay rights!

I guess the military already has plenty of servicemembers fluent in Arabic, so we don't need Lt. Choi.

1. Obama isn't a Savior
2. He's got a lot on his plate
3. Second term is where you will see broad social change as he has a handful of wars, a collapsed economy, and a few other items to deal with.

4. Flame away.

Tell that to Harry Truman and LBJ. I think they had a lot on their plate, too. But Truman still managed to integrate the military, and LBJ managed to sign the Civil Rights Act (noting that he had just lost the south as he did so, but did so anyway because it was the right thing to do).

He's not going to get a second term if he doesn't grow a pair of balls and start acting like a leader.

Pardon me if I'm reading too much into your statement, but are you suggesting that teh gays will all either vote for someone else in the primary/general or stay at home in huge numbers thereby keeping Obama from a second term?

Cause if *that* is what you are saying: I'm laughing.

No, by all means they should continue giving their votes to someone who takes them for granted. THAT will for sure get them everything they want.

It must be fun for you to know the inner workings of Barack's psyche! Tell me: boxers or briefs?

I humbly suggest that the first step to 'getting them everything they want' probably isn't cutting of a nose, or an ear, to spite the face.

It's been 5, almost 6, months.
Deep breaths....

I saw Dan on TV. I would have never guessed he was gay

A. The photo is a dead giveaway. Gaydar is spot on.
B. The guy is one of an elite squad who can actually speak and read Arabic. Good on him.
C. Sleep well at night knowing that the fact that he likes dick and is highly talented in his field somehow removes him from serving his country.
D. When the next town gets bombed, attacked or mildly annoyed by the next Arab speaking extremist, thank your government for putting you all in harms way.
