Chancellor at "NYC Prep" School Livid About Bravo Reality Show
In non-SF news: Did any of you catch NYC Prep last night? If not, let us explain it to you: NYC Prep follows around a group of Dwight School students who will be shot and killed execution-style in a public setting when the socialist revolution comes.
Needless to say, the school's somewhat clueless chancellor, Stephen H. Spahn, is now livid at the light Bravo shines on the elite learning institution. So much so, in fact, that he sent out the following letter to parents and alumnae, which was revealed to us by a former student / SF resident who has asked to remain anonymous.
Dear Dwight Parents and Alumnae,This week, Bravo TV will air the first episode of “NYC Prep,” a new reality series that follows six teenagers in New York City. Two of our recent graduates are featured in the series and, as a result, the School has been receiving attention from the press.
The decision by both graduates to participate in this show was made without consulting the School. We always counsel our students to avoid such opportunities, as they usually reflect wrong-headed stereotypes. [Wrong. Former student tells us that said stereotypes are jarringly accurate. -- SFist] The decision to participate in the series was made solely by the students’ families.
As stated in our Student/Parent Handbook, students must maintain high ethical standards and behave, both on and off campus, in ways that reflect favorably upon the School, their families, and themselves. While the two students who participated in this show are now graduates, we would like to remind our current families that there is “zero tolerance” for students who find themselves in a similar situation and violate the spirit of this rule.
As a leading International Baccalaureate school, we prepare students to be positive leaders. This is represented by our rigorous academic program coupled with the development of strong character through local and international community service.
Please contact me if you have any questions. I wish you and your family a happy summer.
Respectfully,Stephen H. Spahn
Chancellor
In Spahn's defense, we too would be upset if the kids of Laguna Beach outshined, outsmarted, and outclassed us in comparison.
