Macy's splendid 6th floor ladies' bathroom
Cintas Corporation, a company that manufactures poo and pee toiletries, is having their annual America's Best Restroom Competition. And the Union Square Macy's 6th floor crapper made the top ten. Yay!
Although females neither urinate nor defecate -- because that's unlady-like -- for some reason they feel the need to have their own bathrooms just like men. (Blame it on women's lib and penis envy; we see no other reason.) See, ladies digest food and drink into perfume, sunshine, and lollipops, so public restrooms setup for them are typically more flowery and impressive than bathrooms for men. That's why Macy's female restroom is so smashing.
The contenders are:
- Macy's Department Store: San Francisco, California, 6th floor -- "Art deco design, featuring Italian marble, chandelier with carved ceiling medallion, and full-length stainless steel stall doors.
- Shoji Tabuchi Theatre (Branson, Missouri): "Marble fireplaces, hand-carved mahogany pool table, antiques, lion's head sinks, leather chairs, stained glass and chandeliers."
-
Radio City Music Hall (New York, New York): Designed in the early 1930's, restroom and lounges feature classic tile work, art deco furnishings and unique materials, including cork- covered walls.
-
Canlis Restaurant (Seattle, Washington): Zen-like atmosphere, featuring handmade organic wall coverings, designer fixtures, Japanese art, with large picture windows overlooking garden.
- The Tremont Plaza Hotel (Baltimore, Maryland): "Extensive use of imported marble, grand columns, chandeliers and hand carved woodwork."
-
The Tampa Theatre (Tampa, Florida): "Designed in the 1920's, features include Vitrolite glass on walls, intricate tile designs, and pipe-shaped sconces."
-
The Drake Hotel (Chicago, Illinois): "Palm Tree murals, private suites, in-stall makeup tables, elegant sconces and an array of chandeliers."
-
NOVA 535 (St. Petersburg, Florida): "Private restroom suites featuring full-length solid birch stall doors and Italian mocha travertine with black granite diamond inserts in a completely touch-less environment."
-
The Fox Theatre (Detroit, Michigan): "Designed in 1928, restrooms and lounges feature custom made furniture, fireplace, tile, hand-carved moldings and chandeliers."
-
Zeffirino Ristorante (Las Vegas, Nevada): "Custom-made mosaic tile artwork, Carra marble floors, Venetian plaster, Murano Glass chandeliers and washbasins, limestone water fountain and private restroom suites."
Venetian Resort, Hotel & Casino
Ew.

That said, any nominations for San Francisco's worst public bathroom? Really, the possibilities are endless.

id vote the Mens bathrooms at The Transbay Terminal to be the worst in SF.
adding: the All-Star donuts at 5th and Harrison is pretty gnarly as well. i once saw a gutted pigeon next to the toilet there. and next to the gutted pigeon were some empty honey mustard packs from McDonalds and a bent, bloody fork.
worse than zeitgeist?
ive never seen anyone passed out with a needle in their arm while on the toilet while getting awoken with a broom via security at Zeitgeist. or fecal-making in the sink, while smiling.
sadly, i have seen both at the TransBay Terminal.
where are the other clean spots in the city? men, if you can't go pee in a urinal, sit down like the bitch you are when you use a toilet. fucktards!!! so tired of your weak ass shit. you are women!!!
Stevenson Street, as a bathroom, can be awful at time.
The 6th floor men's bathroom at Macy's looks like any other department store bathroom, if I remember correctly. Sure as shit wasn't any Italian marble in there.
While the marble's a nice decorative touch, I think I prefer one of the Nordstrom Womens Lounges instead. Maybe calling itself a Lounge disqualified it.
Ask *any* Macy's employee where the restroom is and you get directed downstairs...not up. I didn't even know the "6th floor" crapper existed.
The sixth floor Macy's restroom has been at the top of my list of public bathrooms in Union Square for years. I believe it's so fancy because it's in the part of Macy's that used to be Magnin's.
But it's also very dark and somewhat creepy. I know because I've tried to take cell phone pics in there and it's too dark.
Another swell place to pee in that area is the first floor ladies room of the St. Francis hotel. Lots of vanity-type space and framed black and white photos of glamour girls of yore.
Yeah, I don't like that sixth floor Macy's bathroom. It's dark and creepy and since doors go all the way to the floor, no one bothers to look at the little "vacant" sign and they just try to barge on in.
When I have to go, I go to the Saks Mens Store ladies' room. Clean, quiet, and usually you're the only one in there.
The restrooms in the Macy's Men's store across the street make the JCDecaux toilets look like Shangri-La.
And they smell just as bad.
The men's restroom in the Panhandle, the men's restroom at Dolores Park, and the men's restroom that serves the tennis courts behind Sharon Meadows have seen better days. They reek of body odor or something awful. I'm also very shy about using public restrooms, and some of the toilet stalls don't have doors. I've walked in on someone wiping his behind once -- I was more embarrassed than he was I think, and I still can't forget the visual.
I'd vote for Plug 1's choice above. He covers both the bizarre and disgusting.
The Panhandle restroom is BRAND NEW. Thanks SF for keeping it so clean and tidy!
I wish I was a chick so I could actually use the facility... ha ha. But seriously, someone outa replicate the setup as a Los Angeles area portable restroom rental on wheels for high-end events... wedding and corporate functions.
