Bike to Work Day Is Almost Upon Us

Tomorrow's the 15th Annual Bike to Work Day! Cycling activists anticipate 150,000 participants tomorrow. If we had a bike and worked at an office, we would most certainly be participating. Also, if we lived west of Divisadero, we'd take that awesome Wiggle route. We hear it's the place to be.

Energizer stations will be set up in nine Bay Area counties, in which you can stock up on free beverages, snacks, and "good cheer." Here's a list of all the SF stations. Be sure to keep track of Bike to Work Day on Twitter, and enter their raffle, which runs through May 31.

Have questions? The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition (SFBC) has organized Commuter Convoys throughout the city to get the newbies feeling comfortable. Push-off time tomorrow is at 7:45 a.m. They've also set up a Bike Buddy Forum online. (The forum might be a bit overloaded at the moment though -- we couldn't get it to load.)

Wrapping up the festivities will be SFBC's free Annual Bike Away from Work Party and Fashion Show at the Rickshaw Stop (155 Fell St) from 6 to 10 p.m. Get tips from fellow cyclists and check out the latest in bike clothing and accessories. There will be a raffle with fabulous prizes, including Burning Man tickets, restaurant gift certificates, a tune-up from Pedal Revolution, and a Mission Cliffs climbing package. SFBC is also offering free bike valet service, of course.

The SFBC also needs your help. They're asking experts to volunteer tomorrow. They also need participants to join them on the steps of City Hall tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., along with members of the Board of Supervisors and city leaders, for an SFBC press conference demonstrating support for dozens of Bike Plan improvement projects. There will also be a community meeting at City Hall (Room 421) tomorrow night from 6 to 8 p.m. regarding bike lanes on Townsend Street and Fifth Street. Check out all of SFBC's ongoing events.
