Sure, it's preposterous. Amazing in its unbelievability. But the National Organization for Marriage (a truly vile organization) is something to take notice of, because people believe this shit -- powerful people; people you know; people you like; people you love; people who, let's face it, should be stopped. And the above ad, while riddled with inaccuracy, is the latest attack on civil rights and same-sex marriage. (In related news, you can find an updated map showing who donated to Prop 8, right here.)
That said, the normally meh HRC tracked down the audition reels of actors "stumbling over ridiculous NOM lines like 'the clouds are dark and the winds are strong, and I’m afraid.'" Because lying is hard to do, especially on camera.
Washington Post has more. Be sure to check out the auditions are after the jump.

the latino guy who said "da estorm is coming" is sooooooo closeted.
" ... a rainbow coalition ... "
That's a direct pitch to African-americans. And that ESL speaker at the end? Nice. Pit the conservative Latinos against the homos. Nothing like pitting one minority group against the other.
God, how I hate them. I hate them sooooooo much ... it-it- the f - it -flam - flames. Flames, on the side of my face, breathing-breathl- heaving breaths. Heaving breath.
Some days I can just laugh this kind of inanity off. Today isn't one of those days. Why, why, WHY do they hate us so much? I just do not understand.
It is NOT you; it's them.
I'm confused. What freedoms are going to be taken away? What exactly will they be forced to do? Cause, I thought the issue was just affecting gay marriage. What does this change for anyone else?
Discrimination affects everyone.
I think you might have missed my point.
The straight woman in the ad says, "My freedom will be taken away."
She's already allowed to get married. What exactly is this freedom that neo-cons think will be taken from them by giving other people freedom?
Their freedom to be a bigoted asshole/to control other peoples' lives?
I think they couch this as the freedom of a community to decide to live according to certain values, but that's just another way of saying 'tyranny of the majority' to me.
The HRC page about this ad lists the specific grievances they mention:
The facts indicate that (1) refers to the Benitez decision in California, determining that a doctor cannot violate California anti-discrimination law by refusing to treat a lesbian based on religious belief, (2) refers to the Ocean Grove, New Jersey Methodist pavilion that was open to the general public for events but refused access for civil union ceremonies (and was fined by the state for doing so) and (3) refers to the Parker decision in Massachusetts, where parents unsuccessfully sought to end public school discussions of family diversity, including of same-sex couples.
#1 doesn't seem even tangentially related to same-sex marriage.
Jesus Christ! What did I ever do to *you* people other than be born?
WHOA--ears on audition #4. Yikes.
Well, to be fair, if anyone was going to hear the storm coming, it would be that guy.
More generally, I cannot believe this crap. At what point will citizens realize that all of this is specious.
lmao @ "that guy"
sometimes the views of these dimwits are so far beyond my comprehension...
I don't understand why these people are doing this.
shame on these people...
Kinda messed up that they aren't really doctors or whatever neat profession... just actors
