The Tuesday Noon Siren, a Short Documentary

This cute, two-minute video created by 72hours.org with the help of the SF Department of Emergency Management explains the history of San Francisco's outdoor warning system and profiles Cesar Santos, the dispatcher who tests the Siren every Tuesday at Noon. We wonder what Tray 3 is, as in "Don't Use Tray 3" in the YouTube freeze-frame.

And remember, if you hear the siren any other time besides Tuesdays at Noon, go indoors and immediately tune to a news source such as KCBS 740 AM, or another local media station. In a real emergency, the siren tone will cycle repeatedly for 5 minutes.

I'm guessing that "Tray 3" is a particular paper tray in a printer. Maybe there's special paper loaded in that tray. Or perhaps it has a tendency to jam.

Don't use tray 3? But I want to use it to piss you off!

If I'm going to attack SF with my bioweapon, of course I'm going to do it at Tuesday at noon. Duh.

Pleasantly enjoyable! Also good to know that someone felt it was necessary to label trays "Scratch Paper" and "Not Scratch Paper." I think I'm going to label my stapler as "Stapler" and my tape dispenser as "Not Stapler."

Thank you, Cesar. Tuesdays at noon are the only times I ever know what time it is.
