Mission Pool Closing For The Spring

194801082_2dd4af2af7_m.jpg Man, we are always late to things! We just discovered the awesomeness that is the outdoor Mission Pool on 19th and Linda Street like two or three weeks ago, and, just when we were getting settled into a routine, the budget cuts to SF Parks and Rec are requiring them to close until May 19.

We're totally bummed! The Mission Pool staff always kept the water warm, so even when it was cold and/or rainy out, the swimming was always nice. Plus, everyone who swims there was really nice about us being the absolute slowest and worst swimmer in the world, the facilities were always clean, and really, it is just incredibly cool to swim outside in the Mission at twilight.

We'll wait for the pool to reopen in May, but it's not going to be the same, it'll be a summer pool then and everyone will be there and it won't be our secret anymore (sigh). Pleeeeease, Supervisor Dufty, bring back Mission Pool for the spring!!

The Mission needs year round outdoor recreation for it's residents. Mission families don't have nearly enough opportunities for outdoor exercise.
This is something I can get behind.
I heart the Mission Pool.
Fundraiser anyone?

Chicken John?
Zin Zin?

It is perhaps too out of the way if you are in the Mission, but the community pool in Brisbane is open year round. It is outdoors, heated, and they have parking, lockers and picnic tables. Photos and details here:

Community pool? You're implying that people "share" a swimming pool? That's just not right.

While it sounds nice that it's heated I don't know. I just can't get into the idea of a pool out here where it's continually already cold and miserable most of the time and often rather wet to boot. Not to mention all of this getting even worse in the summer.

If we actually had warm, sunny summer days then it would be great, but I think I'll stick to being bundled up in a heavy coat all summer rather than risk even a moment of coming out of a pool into the frigid air.
