"Bluerain"

Be sure to check out "Bluerain" before it leaves this Sunday for the London School of Economics Library.

What is it, you ask? Well, aside from being totally awesome, it's an art installation featuring over 23,000 LEDs that "make up a marquee of alien hieroglyphics." But what does it say? According to Curbed, "the lights are a cascading flow of record titles, recent library acquisitions, and current online searches conducted within the library to the public outside the building."

We love this. We want more of this. We demand blinky, blue lights on the sides of all San Francisco Victorians.

Word is there will be some sort of reception for the piece at 6 p.m. on Friday. "Bluerain" is located at the back of the bank parking lot on the corner of 16th and Julian, near Valencia in the Mission.

I live in an apartment across from Blue Rain and since it's placement my bedroom and living room walls are washed in blue flasing lights. I can't sleep. Even with the shades down there is the constant flashing blue light. I am an art lover in particular I admire Holzer and her use of LED installations. However, this is not Holzer what so ever, it's ugly and keeps me up all night. At least with Holzer you can read what is flashing across the surface and what she writes can sometimes be profound or mundane, but good. Not this. I for one can't wait when it leaves the neighborhood. Yes, the neighborhood could use art to uplift and even to overlook what is really going on the streets - homelessness, drugs, prostitution, gang violence, shootings, and death. As a long time resident I can go on with what goes on in this neighborhood. How about art that is really worthwhile and beautiful. Blue Rain does not fit the bill. Sorry but that's how I feel.
