Muni Feels Pretty

Either you are the kind of person who feel giddy whenever a train passes, or you aren't. If you aren't, then there's simply no explaining the glee with which transit enthusiasts will receive this news: F-line tram 496, a Melbourne W-class vehicle, has been -- get this! -- refurbished.

The 80-year-old tram had its latest debut on Friday, complete with a fresh coat of paint and visiting dignitaries from Australia. Hip hip hooray! We hope to have some photos of the noble chariot soon. In the mean time, keep an eye out for its freshly re-done green and gold paint job.

I saw that today at the Ferry building. Looks like Muni is not putting it on the full route, just the wharf portion (Ferry to Fisherman's Wharf).

I'm the kinda person who feels giddy when an Airbus 320 losses power to both engines and hit water...

I'm a transit enthusiast, but I think Muni should focus on one thing and one thing alone: improving the service.

AHEM!

Market Street Railway pays for the old skool cars on the line.

So cut the crap about how MUNI "wastes money" on the old skool lines.

Carry on.

These trains are paid for by private funds and donated to Muni to run.

You can join the Market Street Railway association for something like $100 / year min and get a newsletter on the trains. The funds go to pay for the trains.
