About what cuts? Well, cuts that could be symptomatic of the "greatest crisis since the Great Depression," said Mayor Newsom, according to SFist sources, who spoke to the Board of Supervisors today. That is to say, the whopping $118 million cuts (or what he calls "mid-year solutions") to San Francisco's budget. The entire list will become available later this afternoon. According to Newsom, "there was not a program or project not considered" for cuts. Gulp. (Word is the Mayor had animated discussions with Supervisor Bevan Dufty and his staff about cuts to AIDS funding, and similar discussions with Ross Mirkarimi about snips to criminal justice.) More to come.

Well, jesus, we should probably stop funding AIDS. It's doing alright on its own, right?
Shorter Gavin: Programs and policies he runs, his friends run, or are run by people who will be useful to his political career will not be cut as much as the others.
I wonder if he considered cutting his large team of $150k plus staffers paid for with absconded Muni money?
Maybe he could talk about all those big pay raises and increases in spending he did last year that blew out the budget?
Then perhaps talk about what he's done to fight all the cuts in Sacramento that are screwing the City and MUNI?

missiondweller: no, because that's what he's good for.
Well, I guess I can forget my dream of turd free sidewalks in 2009. Bastards!
But by all means let get those IDs to illegal aliens quickly so they can bleed our services even more!
cut seibels wardrobe and hat allowance.
I notice he's keeping his pet project, 311. Could someone please explain who in hell uses this?
How about cutting his own damn salary as mayor? I mean, doesn't he make enough from his business interests? I'm sure it won't affect him that much, but it would help show some solidarity. Besides, isn't he getting like $300k or something? That seems pretty standard for top city positions. Let's knock those all down to, hell, even if we just took them down to $100k and removed bonuses it would be nice and could help save some jobs.
Also, firing the terrible Muni drivers that cause problems would be a nice first step, but I suspect that they're being protected by the union and will never, ever go away.
