Heartless Anti-Thanksgiving Celebration on Alcatraz Island

Acrylic_Poker_Chip_Set.jpg
In lieu of getting drunk on unoaked Chardonnays, watching a football match or sorts, or binge eating on meat and pasty carbs, you can check out the Indigenous Peoples Annual Sunrise Gathering on Alcatraz Island tomorrow morning. To quote the organizers: "Join us in this day to give thanks for the Creator's gifts, renew our commitment to protect Mother Earth, honor the many heroes of our struggles, celebrate Indigenous Peoples' survival and build solidarity among all Peoples. Tobacco and prayers will be offered to the fire for the Earth and coming generations, and for All Our Relations." Your guess is as good as our as to what will take place. But we do know that Morning Star Gali, Lakota Harden, and Bill Means will emcee the early morning fun. All Nations drum troupe and traditional Aztec and Pomo Dancers will also perform. Everyone is welcome.

Ha! I thought for a second that you said "Aztec and PORNO dancers!" Guess that's just what I expected to see...

The headline is funny. I find the photo offensive. Just sayin'

Yep, the photo would normally be pretty offensive; today, it's very offensive.

Maybe the Indigenous Peoples can be convinced to take over Alcatraz again?

What's so offensive about the photo? Don't Native Americans run casinos (and television ads showing their self reliance)?

Now now. It's important for people to feel Ways about Things.

I see nothing offensive about the image. In fact it's pretty appropriate because it's sort of a joke, really. At least it's not a teepee, dream catcher or flacid warrior on horseback.
