Is it too much to ask that NextBus cope with the daylight savings time-change? Our wristwatch can figure it out, but apparently it's simply too much for NextBus to comprehend. So on Saturday night, there was a complete blackout of arrival predictions; not just for San Francisco, but for all NextBus clients in the US and Canada. Luckily, you could still get scheduled arrival times by calling 311.
But is it too much to ask that Muni explain the outage to riders by posting a message on NextBus signs? Apparently, yes; it is. So yesterday evening, we watched as perplexed bus riders stood at shelters and stared at the bus signs, waiting for them to reveal their secrets; but none were forthcoming. A simple "call 311 for arrival times" would have been enough.
So why didn't Muni communicate this information to riders? We don't know. Surely it is not due to incompetence, poor internal communication, or low standards for customer service. Because Muni does not suffer from any of those problems.

Week Around the Ists

NextBus is a crapfactory swathed in secrecy and MUNI union contracts. It comes as no surprise that they can't handle the most basic of computerisms.
And it's "hornswoggled."
Technically, it's Daylight Saving (singular, not plural) Time.
Perhaps that's what caused NextBus to fail.
The relationship between MUNI and the company that does NextBus/NextMuni has never been completely harmonious...remember this:
http://sfist.com/2006/05/17/the_first_rule_of_nextbus_there_is_no_nextbus.php
The first rule of MUNI is that they don't give a rats ass about any of their paying customers.
The second rule is see the first rule.
I think NextBus generally does a pretty good job; I won't begrudge them this.
I guess I'm also a little confused as to how it would've fucked things up...did it just read "1 hr, 6 min" rather than 6 minutes?
You think the folks who ride the Yamanote line in Tokyo would accept this bullshit? Get real.
MUNI AND NEXTBUS ARE SERVICES RUN BY WANKERS FOR WANKERS.
Fucking humiliating. There is no excuse for this travesty. The people who run MUNI should be thrown to the sharks.

A 19-Polk bus I was riding earlier today (around 4 or 5 pm) was showing a time of 6:00 a.m. on the overhead information at the front of the bus. (shrug)
