Horrible Human Being Tries to Ruin Mission Food Truck Deliciousness

MSF%20menu.jpg

Someone was trying to ruin the Mission Food Street fun last night. Pft. Burrito Justice has the story:

A bit of drama tonight before the opening — "James the Hater" from Vanguard Properties (the stone building on the corner) came out all agro, getting in the MSF team’s face, yelling that their permit was bogus, they were dirty, they had no right to be there, etc. (MSF does have a permit, they hose down the sidewalk after closing, pick up after themselves and are nice people.)

We hate people like this. And this city is crawling with them. Anyway, if you don't know what Mission Street Food is, it's a gastronomic truck that hits the corner of 21st and Mission every Thursday night.

Also, Mission Mission has more about what went down last night, which is form where we first heard the story.

Update I: Burrito Justice speaks! James is, in fact, with Vanguard. Johnny O writes, "He was definitely with Vanguard. He left his business card with the MSF folks - it clearly said 'James' and 'Vanguard.'" Yeah. Way to make the neighborhood shine, Vanguard Properties.

Update II: Curbed has more info on "James the Hater." Why, James? Why?!

Before everyone goes off on Vanguard properties, do we know for sure they were involved?

If it was someone from Vanguard, they sure don't seem to have a problem with the messy cart that is there every day selling mangoes and such, which also doubles as a gang lookout. The guy who owns the corner liquor store opposite doesn't have any problem with these carts, so what the hell is this guy's problem?

If it IS Vanguard, see if I ever buy another million dollar condo from them!

seriously though the problem is the 50 hipster long line for barely decent mexican food that takes the 2 guys in there way too long when you can go half block to altenas or 2 blocks to cancun and then they just leave their plates all over the ground and that's probably what the vanguard guy was really pissed about

People like that make me wish I was a violent person.

@ lobzo

this truck isn't a taco truck. It serves gourmet kinda shit

Last night's menu:
PB & J: Kurobuta Berkshire Pork Belly & Jicama w/ pickled jalapeno and cilantro aioli on fresh home-made flatbread. $5

KING TRUMPET: Wild mushroom, triple fried potato, garlic confit, and charred scallion sour cream on a fresh home-made flatbread. $5

MISSION MELT: Roasted pasilla and jalapeno peppers, avocado, onions, and melted cheese on a fresh home-made flatbread. $4

ASIAN PEAR SLAW: Julienned asian pear, lettuce, and edamame in a mint-lime-horseradish dressing. $2

FILTHY RICH: home-made brownies with brie and hazelnuts. $3

Add Bacon, Avocado, or Drink - $1 each

I used to work in the Vanguard building. I don't remember a "James" from there. Maybe the aggro dude wasn't who he said he was.

The mango cart was there everyday -- why would someone yell at someone over that corner?

Johnny0 from Burrito Justice here.

He was definitely with Vanguard. He left his business card with the MSF folks - it clearly said "James" and "Vanguard". Agreed it doesn't make sense given the other Food-Related Activity there.

MSF is cleaning up and hosing down the sidewalk after they are done for the night.

On the bright side, I just put up a "What's Your Favorite Sandwich" poll. I honestly don't know which one I would pick...

hey porkbun! why are you clouding this issue with facts? Isn't enough that we can/should just blame this on 'hipsters in the mission' and then be done w/ the whole things?

good.

now I can get back to mashing MIA and the black keys and posting about it on tumblr.

Damn mission hipsters - why are they getting the good cheap food when it should be in my neighbourhood. That menu is making me hungry.

lobzo: Did punctuation do something to piss you off?

Wanna buy a condo, condo, condo ...?

I'm guessing it's the possessed-looking guy -- 11th row from the top.

I don’t blame him for going mad! He has cleaned the block. Take a walk from 24th to 20th streets and you can see how clean the 21st Street block is compared to the others. These vendors who do not pay taxes nor have a permit leave a mess for merchants to clean. If you log onto the sfgove website you will see that only the Mango stand has a permit to sell fruit and snowcones. The “antojitos san miguel” truck has a permit for 16th Mission Bart Plaza. The owner of the truck rents it to Anthony Myint on Thursday nights. Anthony was given the permit to display but if he did his homework he would know that it is a permit to sell Mangos and not hot food!! It is illegal to sell food on the street without a permit!!!

marissaknicole, MSF had a permit and the customers cleaned up after themselves. read again, genius.

yes a permit to sell fresh fruit, corn on the cobb and snow cones!! Did you read it? Look up Anthony Myint and he does not have any permits whatsoever. Antojitos san miguel has a permit to sell at the 16th street bart plaza! what permit are you talking about? Did i miss something? If Anthony Myint or Justitiano GOmez who owns the truck don't have a permit to sell on 21st and Mission then what permit are you talking about?

woah a little late with follow up and by now that cart is gone so all points are mute

@ porkbun:

the weeks preceding this 'gourmet kinda shit' menu there was a a regular taco truck, i didnt realize it had changed menu

@ what

blogmenting @ work allows no time for punctuation !@#$%^&*() !

@ brock there was definitely a huge mess next morning, soiled plates and napkins all over the ledges of the vanguard building and all over the floor
