Really, with Wal-Mart and Target doing spectacular business, that they've managed to stay open this long is a miracle itself. See, Hayward-based Mervyns is closing its doors. For good. (Now where will be get our 1000+ thread count sheets? Fuuuuuuuuuck.) The semi-super-chain, which has about 175 locations in seven states, plans to liquidated their assets under the Chapter 11 bankruptcy code.
That is to say, everything must go! The company and its board says "going out of business sales during the holiday season is the best way to maximize value for the company’s creditors." So during the holiday season, be sure to head over to the Mervyns nearest you to pick up a few bottles of discounted Drakkar-Noir and janky Anne-Klein II separates for the loves ones in your life. You can (still!) find Mervyns in Bay Area at 2675 Geary Blvd, SF; 63 Serramonte Ctr, Daly City; and 2201 S Shore Ctr, Alameda.

Mervyn's was owned by Target until 2004. Apparently Mervyn's is now suing Target, claiming the buyout deal was fraudulent and forced them into bankruptcy.
But, still, it is amazing they stayed in business all these years.
Sweet. Now I can afford to get everyone Cherokee mom jeans for Christmas.
Brock shops at Mervyn's. He's a Mervyn's shopper.
alameda no bueno
Oh no!
What are we going to call Mervyn's Heights now?
Nice choice for the photo.
That's definitely the Mervyns I know.
fatherchristmas: Oh no!
What are we going to call Mervyn's Heights now?

Them ladies sure are purdy.
I agree with charlesporch. That pic is the best thing I've seen all day! Where do you even find such gems? Wait...don't tell me! It'll ruin the mystery...
I am so sad. When i was growing up in tracy, this was our Macy's we had to travel 30 min to manteca to get the fresh styles at meryvns....I am so sad.
Better get my Haggar pants/slacks soon. I love these pants!
Damn... whose going to take the space at the old Sears building now? Maybe Trader Joes nearby could move into the double floor space, parking sucks at their Masonic location.
Leanne - I've been wondering for ages why Target designs are so chic and Mervyns so crank. I knew that Target owned Mervyns but I didn't know it was sold.
Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! They occaisionally had pants that fit! It's cheap! It's open late!!!!!!
:( :( :(
where will wallenberg students cut class now?! =p
I used to go to Wallenberg.
First Mother's Cookies and now Mervyn's? I can't even jump off the GG Bridge to end my misery.
Crap! Where will I get the maxx for my dollar? Where can I get clothes for mere pennys? Where will I be able to dress for less? The lack of cheap clothes should set off all kinds of warning bealls. I suggest we marshall a salvation army of good-willed citizens. Our target is to ensure that the people behind this closing get nothing but kohls in their stockings.
Aw, man. I've been buying their darling little child-bras here for years. They're pink, they're sparkly, they're six bucks, and they FIT. (Me, not my non-existent child.)
anybody know if they're boasting crazy prices yet? (for real, i wanna load up on socks etc..)
seriously.
