Mildly Humorous Yes on H Ad
Andy Blue (Reverend Billy) has demanded we show you this Yes on H: The Clean Energy Act ad, which, yes, is actually a bit clever. (Oh, and if H passes, it seems, 51% of our energy will be clean energy by 2017, 75% by 2030, and 100% by 2040! All of the energy used to power your hovercrafts, space TVs, and space hairdryers will be clean! Of course, all of that is debatable. But you all can wring your hands about that in the comments.)
And since it's better than that No on H ad in circulation, featuring the lovely Carmen Chu (and some serious PG&E undertones), we accept Blue's request. Also because we couldn't find the Chu-y No on H ad on Youtube. So: ha.

I think Carmen Chu is hammered.
They're fucked, right or wrong (I have my opinions on that, but whatever). A day hasn't gone by that I haven't received a No on H mailer and/or seen a No on H ad on television...the Yes on H side seems to be reduced to making semi-vulgar internet-only spots that will be seen mostly by SFist readers.
You know...I struggle with finding political blogs that can't stay focused on the issues that matter and stoop to a level where they post rediculous crap like this video.
This campaign video is so sexist and demeaning, it should have no place on your blog. People like Fiona Ma and Carole Migden are out there supporting a campaign that uses this vulgar and downright outrageous language to find support? Come on already. Give it up! I think your readers should call them up and ask them why they support this campaign.
And please don't waste our time with this type of stuff. We have a presidential election coming up... In the meantime, I'm going to stick to Calitics.
hahahahaha.
Come on, Brock. You should at least offer her a refund.
@JackyB54
Sexist and demeaning?
You forgot racist, homophobic and anti-semetic for a straight-flush in the game of Utter Bullshit. You win! And thanks for playing.
NEXT!
I am shocked, shocked to see mild sexual innuendo and bleeped expletives on SFist! Shame on you, Brock.
I smell a PG&E rat. JackyB54 signed up for both SFist and youtube just now to express her outrage about this video? I don't buy it. There is nothing remotely sexist about this video. PG&E wants to f*ck everyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. That's the point of the video.
Greg Dewar is that you, attempting to do PG&E's online bidding? (Greg is a local blogger who is on the PG&E payroll for the No on H campaign.) I wonder if there's any similarities between JackyB54's IP address and Greg's. I assume Greg is smart enough to learn the lesson of Ragone, but who knows . . . .
Prop H has to pass! Our city should be the leader in renewable energy and Prop H will put us on the pathway to building a new green economy in our city. Think of all the green jobs that will be created by 2017 when our city reaches the 51% mark for renewable energy. Go SF!
Absolutely hilarious! I am not offended at all. What's offensive is how our money, that we pay in rates every month, is being used to litter the city with mailers.
The more money I see being wasted the more I pray Prop H will pass
Can someone please explain to me how this is sexist or racist or homophobic or anti-semetic?
The PG&E execs are fucking EVERYONE in this video and everyone in this city in real life.
The PG&E execs do not discriminate in this video nor do they discriminate in real life.
Save the earth. Save on your power bills. Vote yes on H. : )
oh and for a happier video check out:

Um, Jeremy (I don't know your real name since you're not providing it like I do, who knows maybe you work for the yes on H campaign) I don't appreciate accusations like that, I post under my own name, and have always done so.
I've always signed my posts and included an email address to be contacted when necessary. Unlike the Yes on H campaign, which has harassed me with death threats and slanderous statements, I have done my job, and always used my own name because that is what I do.
I don't know why it is people feel it's ok to make death threats and so on against people who have a different point of view, but I guess that's how dirty all sides are getting in SF politics.
Now I remember why it is I avoid working in the City I live in. You people are all wayyyy too aggro for your own good.
Greg, if you say it's not you, I'll take your word for it. My apologies. I'm not threatening death or anything. But forgive my suspicion. If JackyB54 isn't a sock puppet, she definitely smells like astroturf. I mean, is it really possible to consider that video sexist?
Apology accepted Jeremy. I'm not asking to be called a saint for working for PG&E, but they recruited me and I have to pay rent, so I took the gig, not realizing that people would freak out so much. It would have been easy for me to cover my tracks and use 10000 fake names, but I wanted to be honest with people and told people what I was doing.
Also, I didn't mean to suggest YOU threatened death - but I've received some scary emails from folks on the other side. I can't understand why people waste their time writing hate mail when they could be doing something productive for the causes they believe in.
As for JackyB, it's hard to say. Not everyone that reads SFist may comment so it may be a " long time reader first time poster" or it may be something else. I don't admin SFist so I can't say for sure. But it sure as hell ain't me!
For what it's worth, I appreciate something that's funny, but this video was a bit over the top and I don't understand the need for curse words and such. I can appreciate the Yes on H's enthusiasm for their cause, even if I disagree with Measure H myself.
I just don't understand why more and more, folks in SF politics have to resort to four-letter words and extreme imagery and rhetoric. It's another reminder of why I prefer clients and work in places not in SF.
poop
fuck
shit
boob
I was in Dolores Park the other weekend when they were filming this little ditty. I think I'm possibly even more confused now, but at least I now know why these tidily dressed gentlemen were verbally assaulting nubile park partiers.
This ad is so offensively sexist. But what else can you expect from the Bay Guardian, Daly, Peskin and others who also support Prop K, which would legalize sex trafficking. Way to really talk about the issues, fellas!
Go so-called progressives ... pass a law to ban handguns, and then threaten peoples' lives ... Just like those Republican dickheads, the so-called Progressives in this town don't have a leg to stand on in regards to the substance of their moronic measures, like H and B this year, so they personally attack people. Y'all should sign up for the Karl Rove Assholes in Politics Awards cuz I'd say you so-called progressives in San Francisco may just win it ...
If Prop H fails, let's get out our shovels and pitchforks and kick out PG&E the old fashioned way.
bayareafeminist, i'm a feminist too by the way. I suggest you actually watch the video before you comment on it.
the video is not sexist. the PG&E execs treat everyone like objects. let me repeat that everyone. did they single out any sex, race, or identity of any kind? uh, no they did not. but don't take my word for it. watch the video for yourself.
By the way, have you ever seen the movie Erin Brockovich? watch it and I'll think you'll see that PG&E is far more awful in real life than the sleazy men who portray their execs in this video.
but what about the hovercrafts?
that guy treats objects like women, maaan
Death threats? Over something as stupid and irrelevant as Bruce B. Bruggmann (or is it Brugmann? Brugggmann? I can't remember)'s obsession with public power and the Raker Act?
I thought the ad was funny. I'm a feminist, and in my opinion, that ad was not sexist. If JackyB54 had actually watched the ad, she wouldn't have found it sexist either.
Also, Xenu, (and no I am no sockpuppet, just thoroughly sick of this fucking issue) the voters have REJECTED "kick[ing] out PG&E the old fashioned way" more times than I can count. Maybe now by calling it "green power" the sponsors will get a different result, but I doubt it.
Maybe the voters just don't think this is as important as, maybe, the MURDERS that are going on right under the noses of the supervisors who waste time on public power?
As helpful as this video is in exploring the all of the fine details that would be required if SF were to acquire the electric utilities serving the city, I just want to put a plug for a thorough analysis done by the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR) :
http://www.spur.org/documents/1108_ballot_analysis.shtm#h
While part of this charter amendment focuses on renewable energy, I suggest reading both the pros and the cons SPUR offers before you vote. Or make a YouTube video.
If PG&E doesn't fuck me, who or what will?
Interesting insight into political ads. I was called by a research group, and had time to kill, so I answered some general questions and some related to prop H.
The first questions all were of the ilk "Rate on a scale from 1-100 your opinion on..." Gavin, Carmen, PG&E, BoS, etc...
The second were - they read me Prop H and asked if I thought it implied "Is a blank check for the BoS", "Will cost taxpayers money", etc...
The next day I saw the Prop H ad. There was Carmen, and most of the quotes were verbatim from questions I was asked.
They probably had one group shooting vignettes and another making sure that the people in the final cut were people that the public has a high opinion of, and the quotes were ones that people did not associate with Prop H in order to hammer home the points they think did not get across.
Of course I said I hated everyone so my input didn't help much. But next time I will play "Opposite man!"
Prop H is an absolute must for pretty obvious reasons...
1. We need to pursue renewable energy generation far more aggressively then PG&E's dirty energy infrastructure or high profit margin will allow them to. PG&E has already come out and said they will not make the State mandate to be at 20% renewable by 2010. Instead of pursing real renewable energy production more aggressively, PG&E is lobbying hard for their large Hydro and their Nuclear to be considered renewable. It's as clear as can be that PG&E is NOT the answer!!! Prop H will put us on a path towards 100% clean energy which is a must for our city as well as a must for the example it will set for other communities.
2. All of PG&E's arguments about the pitfalls of municipally run power systems are completely detached from any reality (that goes for SPUR as well). Just compare SMUD's (Sacramento's Municipal Utility District)energy portfolio and their rate charges with that of PG&E and it's pretty clear that private utilities have NO advantages either on pursing renewable standards or in saving ratepayers money.
Finally... What ever you think about this video, please keep in mind that PG$E has already spent over 5 MILLION $$$ on this campaign.
We, as SF residents, have a right to decide what our energy future is going to look like. I hope you realize by interfearing with the process as PG&E is currently doing they are currently trying to obstruct any possibility of a democratic process to occur.
Do you really want to trust our energy future with a corporation that is screwing our democratic process over so royaly and by extension is screwing you?
I agree with Brock on the "mildly humorous" part, but more importantly this gets the message out pretty clearly: PG&E is not out to serve your best interests. As imperfect as MUNI and other city agencies are, they do a much better job of delivering services than say, Comcast or PG&E.
Prop H is a step in the right direction. We can no longer afford to depend on a fossil fuel economy and Prop H mandates a reasonable shift to clean energy. If PG&E can't or won't deliver on that, then the city should take over.
Vote YES on Prop H!
As imperfect as MUNI and other city agencies are, they do a much better job of delivering services than say, Comcast or PG&E.
Is this a joke?
PG&E may not be perfect, but it doesn't leave me standing on the metro platform every afternoon wondering if today it will take 30 minutes to get home or 60.
folks i don't know if you noticed but the earth is cooking in a fucking frying pan. we're screwed.
yeah we're already screwed with the second great depression coming up any day now. but we're REALLY going to be screwed by global warming.
i know some people think a little warmer weather in SF might be kinda nice. THINK AGAIN. huge pieces of SF will be underwater. there will be global climate catastrophe. this shit is for real and this shit is happening now.
ARE YOU LISTENING?! WE MUST CONVERT TO CLEAN ENERGY IMMEDIATELY!! Either PG&E does it or the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission will do it. it doesn't matter to me. Either way it has to fucking happen and Prop H will make sure that it does.
Listen to me people. We have a unbelievable opportunity to create a shift it the national public consciousness about conversion to clean energy. If we do this here, maybe JUST MAYBE it will create a domino effect and other municipalities and states and countries will start adopting similar policies. If SF can pass prop H, maybe we start a trend against global warming. How can we possibly pass up this opportunity because we're afraid of doing something on our own instead of letting a criminal, faux bankrupt-prone, greedy corporate monopoly do it for us?!
WE MUST take control of our own energy future. we owe this to ourselves, we owe it to our fellow citizens of this earth, and we owe it to all future generations.
Please for the love of god DO NOT BELIEVE THE FUCKING lies that PG&E spews in their "don't sign the blank check" mailers and television ads. please! these fools are spending millions of your fucking rate payer dollars to brainwash you.
And please. if i hear another person cry about the city running its own public power system, i'm going to lose my mind. don't you think there are just a couple of things more important on this fucking earth than what happens to be convenient for you?! are people actually so worried that their electrical service will be so bad that it's worth not saving the earth from global warming?
But what's even crazier is you actually have nothing to worry about if the city takes over the power system. The truth is the SFPUC already does an extraordinary job with our water, sewage, and City power services.
PG&E is an awful company. Their rates are higher than in cities that run their own power systems. They have more rolling blackouts than those cities. And they went in to a pseudo bankruptcy a few years back (turns out they actually had the money. they just transfered it out to their parent company back east. fucking clever huh?) and CALIFORNIA TAXPAYERS BAILED THEIR LAME ASSES OUT WITH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
Who are you idiots out there who actually think that PG&E is somehow a competent company doing a decent job? please get you ass up from your TV for five minutes and take a fucking look at what is going on in the world.
Since Ronald Reagan, we have been told and have somehow come to believe that government isn't the solution, it's the problem. i got news for you folks a corporate run america is the problem and I hope we wake up before its too late. seriously i do.
there i said it.
Oh yeah. VOTE YES OF PROP H!
Please stop yelling.
joel, the world is cooking in greenhouse gases and we are destroying it. i'll yell all i fucking want.
I agree with most everything you're saying, but dear Lord, are you annoying. I can imagine you sway a lot of fence-sitters with your "screaming guy on the street corner" act.
