Famous San Francisco jeans maker Levi Strauss is trying to "drum up opposition to Proposition 8 in the business community." According to LS spokesman E.J. Bernacki, the company has donated $25K to Equality for All, the folks leading the No on 8 campaign. Proposition 8, if you've been living beneath the Earth's crust, would bar queers from same-sex marriage in California.(CBS 5)

Am I the only one who read this headline and thought that there was going to be a campaign spearheaded by a 101-year-old anthropologist? That would be so cool.
why would Levi's waste their money? the ban will fail, thank goodness, with or without their support.....i guess it's nice that they're demonstrating gay friendliness, but i doubt the 25k was necessary.
That's great and all, but I wish they would stop manufacturing in homophobic countries like Egypt. I buy Lee jeans now instead.
I wouldn't be too sure of that oskarv, the polls are showing it's going to be very, very close. That kind of attitude reminds me of all my SF friends saying "there's no WAY bush will win a second term" while my native red state self kept telling them to never underestimate the power of ignorant hicks who vote.
Between crazy, cast out satan Palin and gay marriage, the hillbillies will turn out in droves. This is no time to get complacent.
bluecanary: really? i read in the Chronicle that the latest polls are showing 38% of Californians in support of the measure, and 51% opposed. that's a pretty substantial gap. i guess it's true that we shouldn't assume it'll fail though, once we put down our guard we lose.
I guess I haven't checked the latest poll. At any rate, those who are against it and those who will actually get out and vote against it are two different things, and I just don't want to get too confident just yet. Like I said, I think the hillbillies will be turning out in droves this year.
