Update: This Morning's Crime Scene at Fillmore
What's going on here? Jim Herd sent us these images (via his phone) late this morning, taken at Fillmore between McAllister and Fulton. Along with at least 20 cops, SF Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi was at the scene.
A dead body in the area, related to little, red, Buick-y car? A police party? Mirkarimi's jogging, crime-fighting alias in action? Stay tuned.
Update I: Yeah, we're still not sure what, exactly, happened. But we did receive a few more excellent photos from Josh Damon.
Update II: According to the Mercury News, "[a]t 8:13 a.m., police were called to the 900 block of Fillmore Street and found an elderly man dead inside a parked vehicle..."no signs of trauma" were found on the man's body, and the medical examiner has yet to determine the cause of death. At this point, the death is not considered a homicide."

That phone takes really good pictures.
Isn't it a little suspicious how Mirkarimi always seems to show up at crime scenes? COINCIDENCE? MAYBE NOT. Why aren't they looking at him?
Yeah what phone is that? the photos are so clear.
Metadata indicates twas taken with a "Canon EOS SD"
neeeeerrrrrrds!
heh. kidding. but i as told this was sent via a cell. let me see how these were shot. please standby.
I know you're joking (maybe) but in fairness I feel compelled to mention that Mirkarimi shows up at these crime scenes because he lives nearby and surely hears the sirens and commotion as we all do in the area. I must've just missed this one though by leaving for work before it happened.
I think I saw Mirkarimi breaking into a car the other day. And not curbing his tires. And using the back doors to get on the 5 without paying. I am pretty sure it was him (or it could have been someone else...maybe Gonzalez).
I have seen him run a red light! And I think his car was booted once, but i could be wrong about that. Maybe he's the one that broke into my neighbor's and stole her laptop! clearly he's a menace.
wow. nice on-the-spot reporting. big props to phone-photo person.

doesnt look like a good scenario though (((biting nails)))
Or Canon 5D (classic version, not the new Mark II version, which apparently will still have a fairly lame autofocus capability).
Taken with a Canon, sent in via a cellie through the miracle of Nikon WiFi.
SF Medical Examiner = Coroner AFAIK.
A sad situation in the Fillmore these days.
Mirkarimi was looking pretty gangsta in shades when i saw him on the steps of city hall last week.
I think he gets there just after Jameth has fled the scene...
Between Jim Herd (http://www.sfcitizen.com), Jameth (http://jameth.livejournal.com), and some of the more newsy reports on SFist.com, the traditional news professionals in this town have some stiff online competition.
you guys are better than KTVU :)
I just read SFist for my San Francisco local news now. Thanks!
Mirkarimi is called by the SFPD and the SFFD whenever there's a house fire or major crime regardless of the hours. So, ya, he's been at a house on fire at 3am in Hayes Valley. I think he does a good job at keeping in touch with what is going on in the city.
I sure miss living in that neighborhood...
Can we know more about when this happened other than just "late morning"?
SFgate said yesterday that there was a dead guy in the car, but there was no apparent sign of trauma, so it's not being classified as a homicide or anything yet. I can't find the article anymore though...
Why do we need "20 police officers" to protect us (the public) from an old dead guy?
I know, it's before 9AM but can't they do something more productive?
