Lia Rose of Built for the Sea

Free EP’s? Being a friend, not a fan? Oh, and really pretty cello filled music? All that and more are to be had Thursday night when local band Built for the Sea has their cd release party at Slim’s. They describe their music as a mix of Radiohead and Mazzy Star. We’d add there’s a strong dose of Coldplay as well. You can listen to them here. Basically it’s very chill and very pretty music— our money is on them being very big, very soon. Lia Rose, who fronts the band sat down for an SFist interview. Read on for some tales of daring rescues at art collectives and more.

Tell us a San Francisco Story
The first time I ever really lived in SF proper, was when I lived in an artist/activist cooperative in the mission district. Awesome space, wonderful people, always some major excitement going on around that place. One day, we're workin' around the kitchen and the main living space and in comes a youngish guy with a beautiful dog. Turns out he came in to our place in order to escape from some people who were apparently running after him. We managed to calm him down (sort of) and finally we got this story out of him: "I was in the Dolores Park bathroom and a lady thought that I was trying to peep on her but I wasn't. And then all of a sudden there were all these men running after me. I can't go back out there. Please don't make me go back out there…" A couple of hours and near hyper-ventilation attacks later (we're pretty sure he was on some heavy drugs), we finally managed to devise a plan where this guy and his dog would exit our space through a different door than the one he entered; there, we had a taxi waiting for him and we told the taxi driver to take him far away from us!
