Tom Ammiano Pleads With City Hall to Help Curb Mission Violence

Due do the recent smattering of murders plaguing the Mission district -- e.g., since August 22 the hood has played host to seven murders -- city supervisor Tom Ammiano "sent letters to each city department, including Police Chief Heather Fong, District Attorney Kamala Harris and Mayor Gavin Newsom," in efforts reduce the bloodshed. While Fong has deployed more fuzz to parts of the hood "known for gang presence and drug sales," Ammiano claims that most of the new police presence has been "deployed only in front of the trendy neighborhood shops on Mission and Valencia streets." In his letter, Tommy also asked for an explanation from the DA's office for the "disturbing lack of suspects, arrests." (CBS 5)

Yeah Fong's doing a great job as I had to step past 7 young gang memebers planning the days "sales" and bad mouthing other gangs this A.M. on my own stoop.

How about we start making sure these lil criminals are in SCHOOL? How hard is it to drive around and haul them back to class?

Nothing succeeds like a strongly-worded letter. Way to take the lead on this, Tom!

Ammiano is awesome. Too bad he's terming out!

Explanation for lack of suspects ... probably has something to do with few to no witnesses coming forward is my guess.

Oh .... and thanks again to School Board members and Superivsor candidates Mark Sanchez and Eric Mar for spending so much time to eliminate the JROTC from our schools .... one of the few alternatives to joining a gang where kids could find structure, acceptance, and be given a level of responsibility along with respect as a member of the group. Nice goin'

OMG... you're supporting JROTC? I simply cannot imagine that a kid would choose to join that over a gang. If you're going to join a gang I don't think that military prep is really what you're looking for.

Glad we got it out the schools.
