Outsiders Blamed for (Alleged) SF Crime Wave

gated%20community.jpg

Once again, lots of sticky, viscous blood bathed the streets of San Francisco. Let's see, we had a 19-year-old man shot while strolling along 23rd Street and Treat, two people shot inside a car at 23rd and Arkansas Streets, a murder at McAllister and Fillmore in the Western Addition, and it's only Sunday afternoon!

This weekend's most recent gun play happened despite an increased police presence in the Mission (which was sparked by this and this), but that hasn't stopped future CA Governor Newsom from going on the defense about his crime record. He claims that, according to CBS 5, "violent crime is down and so is the city's homicide rate this year," so quit your bitching.

Regarding the recent Mission shooting extravaganza, Newsom goes on to say:

All of the law enforcement in the world is not going to create a peaceful environment ... I don't want to get into the details of these investigations, but you got folks from all over the Bay Area who happen to be in San Francisco doing things that they shouldn't be doing.

Well, it's certainly not these "folks," right? But we want to know, where do you think these "folks" are coming from? Is it:

a) South San Francisco
b) Atherton
c) Oakland
d) Richmond
e) Buttonwillow

Your guess is as good as ours.

there's no way Gavin's going to say anything meaningful (or truthful) about this. it's a big loser issue, with no good way out, and he's not really interested in being mayor anymore.

besides, no one in city government gives a fuck about the Mission. it's viewed as a slum where poor brown people live, and where there are a lot of cool hipster bars. no one in either of those groups votes, donates or can further in any way his political career (or those of any other blood sucking parasite politicos)...

so no one does anything.

there's a District 9 election coming though. maybe some new blood in that seat WILL do something. i mean, it's worth a shot, no?

Get smart and VOTE!

i heard they are putting an Urban Outfitters on Valencia, which is a crime in and of itself.

I agree with both of you zinzin & plug1. I (a big dorky redhead gsy white boy) lived in the Mission 14 years & I love it. when I first moved there I would come home from work & one of the gangs would be hangin' out on my front stairs. Ya know what I got? "Hello, SIR, how are you doin'?" No attitude & threats or nothing. So I was like you guys can hang out here all the time - no one's gonna bother me

yeah...me too, since 1991. things change. the gentrification that has swept the hood make it a lot harder for the gangs to get paid now, opposed to 15 years ago...

the 16th & Mission cesspool is crunched down to almost one block only. there's an urban outfitters going in on Valencia (i didn't hear that...i thought "formula retail" was verboten?). the Walnut Creek crowd is in every weekend. folks do call the cops more now...and they come now (not like then).

the old school junkies / artists / etc that used to live in the hood are mostly gone. so the gangs' business is harder and more aggressive / competitive.

also, the "sanctuary" policy has caused a huge surge of new immigrants, which really bulks up numbers for surenos / MS13, who i understand used to be a strict minority (this fight is 50 years old, btw).

so the dudes hanging out back then were from the hood, grew up here, norteno most likely, and business was good. why fuck with your neighbor if he's not fucking with you?

now, there's competition & contraction in the drug & ho trade. MS13 is trying to take over the city. nortenos are defending their "home barrios". there's a lot of guys in from East Bay in the Mission now, selling rock & hos. that's new over the last 5 years or so.

apparently, enough so that they're killing one another every fucking week. it's a disgrace, and i feel bad for their families.

Can we hire this guy again?

Nail - Totally. Fucking. Brilliant.

it's those dern illegals! takin' our tax dollars and killin' our gang members!

Too bad District 9 Supervisor candidate Mark Sanchez (and his partner in crime Eric Mar, running in District 1) preferred to spend their last few years on the San Francisco USD School Board gunning down the JROTC school program that might provide an alternative to the gangs as a group that provides structure, respect, and leadership opportunties. Not that this one program would be a cure all, but I cannot get it out of my head that these guys focused on this program instead of trying to improve San Francisco schools. If kids don't have a good education, they're fucked regardless of their skin color these days.

Oh - and these guys, as I understand it, also voted with other DCCC members to endorse the Prostitution ordinance that would take away resources from the SFPD to investigate child prostitution and human trafficking .... God help us if Eric Mar or Mark Sanchez get elected to the Board of Supervisors.

They are coming from City Hall..... They are not prosecuted for crimes by the courts.... they are not sent to immigration, they are let loose on the streets to shoot anyone and everyone that gets in their way. They did not get an education because the schools suck, there were no after school programs so they were latch key kids on the streets who joined gangs and did drugs. There were no counseling programs or rehabilitaion programs and no parents at home because the economy is so bad.
They are our new generation on Paxil and A.D.D. medications, unable to handle daily life and unable to deal with their anger so they retaliate. No one values them and they have no value for human life.
That's where they are from.

The city is not well run. But at least the people running it aren't running the whole state, right?

Far as D9 supervisor election, things will only get worse in our neighborhood if ANY of the "progressive" liars are elected. they're all the same, and they all care about nothing but their own political career.

say it with me: snake oil "progressive" career politicos stealing tax money to advance their own career by lying to poor people and guilt ridden liberals about a future that will never exist.

we need a moderate voice on the board for D9. there's only one choice.

let's get smart, and VOTE!

i think it's possible to have a progressive on the board who can reduce crime.

Who's the moderate on the D9 ticket? I'm in D6, but I'm curious. :)

The moderate running in D9 is Eric Storey.

also, i agree that a technically "progressive" candidate can reduce crime.

They would need to be a true progressive....someone interested in progress.

the current crop of progressives - my view - are too entrenched in the old machine to do anything but spout rhetoric and grandstand...Chris Daly style.

i'd love to be wrong about this. please....tell me i'm wrong.

Uhhh, I don't know what stats Mayor Newsom is referring to, but I know I wouldn't be trumpeting the fact that we're only down by about two or three murders compared to the same date last year. There were 83 murders in 2004, 95 in 2005, 86 in 2006, and 98 in 2007 (source: Chronicle). Newsom took office in 2004, and I believe, as many have mentioned before, that he called for the citizens of San Francisco to launch a recall campaign against him if he didn't reduce the homicide rate.

"San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom said ... that if the surge of killings in the city continues, critics should launch a campaign to recall him from office -- and that he just might sign the petition."

Did you guys ever watch "The Wire?" It's exactly the same scenario. Newsom even looks like the f'n guy.
