At least one protester was detained by police outside the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver just after noon on Monday, as the Democratic National Convention was getting underway. Four people wearing bandanas over their faces, who said they were protesting "capitalism," sat down on the sidewalk in front of the convention center, prompting a swarm of roughly 20 police officers to shut down one lane of traffic and subsequently put one of them in plastic handcuffs. Two of the other protesters told bystanders that they had not been told by police why their friend was being arrested, and claimed they had done nothing wrong.

The Colorado Convention Center is home to a large number of issue-based organizations during the DNC. Protesters are allowed to be in front of the building -- many others, including abortion protesters and individuals from PETA protesting the environmental impact of eating meat, were on the same sidewalk. The Democratic National Convention is taking place a couple of miles away, at the Pepsi Center.

Is there going to be a post everytime some idiot suburban-anarchist white kid gets arrested for being an asshole while protesting some vague over-reaching concept like "capitalism"? Because it's gonna be awfully busy around these parts.

you mean like they do here in the city?

"is there going to be a post everytime ..."

i'm sure there will be be. which means inane and shallow replies from a slacker Google/Facebook/Twitter programmer "slumming it" in the Mission previously lived in by a low-income family for several generations.

Fight the power, mac9. By the by, I work for a labor union and live out in the Avenues with the rest of the working class stiffs remaining in this town, for what it's worth.

Ugh. I have a class assignment as of right now where I have to compare the Chinese government to ours in cases of oppression and whatnot. I'll be mentioning this in class tomorrow...

The difference being, if this was China the kid would be on his way to a camp or an execution squad. This joker was probably released of his own reognizance last night or bailed out by his folks from Cherry Creek.

@Joel

Ah, a labor union. So you make a hell of a lot more money than I, a scientist, do by creating and controlling an artificial monopoly on labor and then forcing others to join you or be blackballed out of jobs. I live in Ocean View with the rest of the poor people.

Ad-hoc collective bargaining is fine and can be very useful, but when you form a permanent collective and deny jobs to people unwilling to join you the balance of power is shifted and you become just as much of a problem as the employers.
