SFist Blotter

MISSION, SATURDAY: Were you there? We were. Valencia Street barhoppers and Delfina snobs mistakenly assumed firecrackers ignited after at least five shots rang out at 18th and Guerrero streets a little after 10:30 p.m. One man was shot, but is expected to survive. According to one SFist tipster:

so, about the shooting at 18th and Guerrero, I happen to live right where they captured the guy and got quite an earful of information. He was known by the all the cops, and get this, he had a bullet proof vest on. None of the police were shocked by this. Scary thought that it is normal now to expect the thugs of the city to be wearing bullet proof vests.

But according to the Examiner, the police arrested no suspects. (He ran down 18th Street toward Mission! Like we slurredly told you guys!)

TENDERLOIN, SUNDAY: A man walked into the Fire Department at 934 Larkin St. around 10:30 p.m. to get help for stab wounds to his upper abdomen and left wrist. The suspect, it seems, knew the victim. No arrest have been made.

So what the quoted person means the Mission is still the Mission except that people like him now live there

The thugs have been around for as long as I can recall (1980's)

Don't get me wrong though I am glad this stuff shocks people at 18th and Guerrero now. things are better not worse

Thank you for keeping my rent low, and doing your part to limit the amount of yuppies on the streets at night.

snobs? yuppies? um, look in the mirror fools

While I try to understand how hard these things can be and the realities of working law enforcement in a major city it seems almost like "No arrests have been made." should be the new SFPD motto. Not to mention the documented cases of incompetence and bigotry.

Honestly I'd say the #1 display of incompetence is the aversion to foot patrols. This is a compact city with terrible traffic. Driving everywhere is something that nobody else really does. Police need to be on the street where they can actually do something.

Is this why my croissant had blood on it?

hopefully american apparel will soon start selling bullet proof vests to all the mission hipsters...of course, ill-fitting bullet proof vests that look like they were made in the 80's.

it isn't the violence that surprises me (being that I am the quoted person) I have lived in the Mission on and off for 15 years now, and seen plenty of violence. Someone shot in the neck, someone stabbed, someone beaten with a bat, etc.
It is that the thugs have upgraded to
bullet proof vests.
He said he had been shot 5 times before, they are so used to getting shot that they now take precautions. Can't blame them, but it is a scary thought.
The cops called the guy they arrested Jacques, a gang member from the East Bay. He is a well known drug dealer out on 16th and Mission. This wasn't a Norteno/Sureno Mission argument.

The Mission has long been a destination for East Bay commuter criminals, especially along BART / Mission Street.

you could make a killing selling "Don't Snitch" shirts.

har.

@islandbob:

And I'm hoping that American Apparel sells non-bulletproof, fair trade cotton vests with gigantic bull's-eyes (and lettering that reads "Shoot Here") to fixie riders.
