Alice Radio's "No Name" Booted Off Morning Show

Revealed by its competitor Live105 this morning, word is that Alice 97.3's Morning Radio Show just pruned part of its morning team, on-air personality No Name (AKA Mike Nelson). Alas. Together for six years on the radio, and a few weeks on television with an ill-advised spin-off of the show, Sarah and No Name have entertained the Bay Area masses every morning with, ahem, shocking banter and bon mots. (Or so we assume. We haven't listened to the radio since the advent of the talking picture box. But we have seen their mugs grace the sides of Muni buses now and then.)
Although we received two anonymous emails telling us that No Name was fired by Sarah, that doesn't seem to be the case. We spoke to the show's delightful executive producer, Jan Landis, who told us the idea to get rid of No Name was "management's decision," and that they're currently searching for a new sidekick to go along with "a new version of the show." She also pointed out that "fired is too strong a word" for the now job-free No Name. Deja vu, right? A few years ago, if you recall Sarah's former on-air partner, Vinnie, was (allegedly) booted for hitting the crystal pipe too hard.
Oh, and if you listen to this program on a regular basis, spill it. Were they right to get rid of this No Name? Should they have done something else? Are you excited about the show's up-and-coming different direction? And why on earth are you still listening to the radio?

OH NO!!! I love NO NAME! If they were gonna "get a new personality," (or whatever the lame PC term was that they used was), they shoulda booted boring SARAH! NO NAME added some much needed spice and hilarity to their show.
BIG FAT BOOOO!
also, was this the same No Name who was on KROQ many moons ago? if so, i liked him.
also plus, i miss KROQ deeply.
Long ago, I belched on the radio for No Name when he was on KOME (I was in high school), and won tickets to the "Almost Acoustic Christmas" show featuring the likes of Gravity Kills and Stabbing Westward!
At the show, the same No Name mooned the audience while introducing one of the bands. Class-ay.
KUSF
i TOTALLY forgot about KOME. aw.
what was their line, don't touch that dial, it's got KOME on it?
KROQ rocked.
Maybe they could get Jack Johnson or John Mayer to sit in with Sarah and introduce all of their own crappy songs 12 times every day.
Alice blows.
What?? Dang, no name is one of the main reasons I listen to that show. I think he's hilarious. The show has been on vacation since the 4th and they've just been playing recordings of past shows. They never made any announcement or anything as far as I know.
KOME mottos were:
Keep it on the KOME spot
The KOME spot on your dial.
The last time I listened to Alice it was still Vinnie. Man, this just made me feel old.
I can tell you this. My CD player broke in my car, and sometimes when I don't want to screw with my ipod, I have given the radio a shot. With the exception of public radio (thank god), and KPOO, it is so awful. Live 105 plays the same songs they did when I was in college. Boo to the lowest common denominator.
I'm pretty sure another KOME tagline was "You've got KOME on your dial."
Oh, and "The KOME spot on the radio."
No, it was "KOME...the white spot on your dial."
No Name switched from KOME to Live105 when their parent company, CBS, decided to merge the stations.
But the radio has been dead to me ever since KSJO was replaced with Mexican music. I guess Mexicans are the only people who can't afford iPods these days.
¡Pirate Cat Radio!
That is all.
Hell, I miss The Quake, KQAK.
The only decent FM music station around here these days is KDFC.
also plus, i miss KROQ deeply.
Don't they stream audio over the Internet?
KOME! That takes me back to junior high. ¡Viva Dennis Erectus!
Brock,
Not only does KROQ stream over the Internet from www.kroq.com, their feed is available via AOL Radio. That's right, you can listen to KROQ on your iPhone or iPod touch using the free AOL Radio app.
Most anyone who knowingly listens to Alice gets what they deserve: sterilization.
I worked for a home improvement show and No Name came in to audition for the host spot. That is when I learned his name was Mike Nelson. I was crushed.
No Name was the ONLY reason to listen. Sarah is old and boring and smells bad...
I stopped listening to radio one day when the same song was playing on two different stations, and it was a song by Pink.
That is when I learned his name was Mike Nelson.
Were Tom and Crow with him?
shit man, last time i listened to alice was when vinnie was on the show too. i haven't listened to the radio in 7 years -- since i could drive.
1. I preferred Joel to Mike Nelson
2. I preferred Vinnie Crackpipe, but not by much
3. I think that Sarah and Any Name are lightweight right-wingers in a town that does not need them, and their values have been so atrocious, demeaning, "celebrity"-struck, bullying and casually inhumane that I had to tell my young teen sons that thankfully, just because Sarah and her minions had a place on the public airwaves, it did not mean that everyone was like that.
troy, I now love you and need to have your babies.
I second that, chipmonk.
The only non-NPR morning radio I can bear listening to without throwing up in my mouth is KFOG. At least their morning show doesn't assume that you are a 13 year old.
So Mattie gets the boot, then no name? (I assume Mattie was asked to leave...) This is the same thing that happened back with Vinnie, when he got fired so did a producer. I don't think No Name is hitting the crack pipe, though.
They need to be straight with their listeners. I only listen early in the morning, but have had to hear the same crappy "rewinds" every day it seems. I wish they'd go to a music format.
Satellite radio is really the only way to go. Best 10 bucks I spend every month. Baba Booey to everyone here.
Is K101 still around?
there was the slogan: "wake up with KOME in your ear"
back on topic: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I miss Kevin and Bean on KROQ.
It's about time, the due was like a bull in a china shop.
Not my flavor of man at all, they should bring back Vinnie.
LOL, maybe they should get Alex Bennett to co-host with Sarah.
Alex would be HAWT but he's so Alpha, don't know if he would play well with others.
I loved me some Alex and Lori back in the day.
I really like the chemistry Sarah had with Vinnie as well, he was such a wonderfully complex little rodent.
Is that Hooman guy still on that show? I haven't listened to that station in years mainly because he annoyed the piss out of me.
But the radio has been dead to me ever since KSJO was replaced with Mexican music. I guess Mexicans are the only people who can't afford iPods these days.
I'm going to ignore the racist part of that, but I will say that some of the latin stations are the best on the dial. I'm not a big fan of Tejano music, but I love Reggaeton and salsa/merengue/anything caliente with a cowbell.
Yeah, Alex and Lori...... Miss the live studio audience they used to have.........
Morning radio in the Bay just plain sux...........
Aaarrgghh, SF is where it's at but what is it lately with me hearing about all these random LA things that I miss - KROQ, Kevin and Bean (they actually came to my high school once to talk about radio - that was neato).
SF never had a KROQ we had KRQR the ROCKER
KOME was 98.5 not 105.6
LIVE 105
WOOOOOO HOOOOOO! No Name is gone! It's about time! I never saw what some saw in the guy. He is not funny. Can the guy form a sentence without including the word "Crazy?" Sarah was so much better off with Vinnie. Her spark has been missing a bit since he left.I know it's a long shot but I would love him to return!
This is my opinion and I have a right to it.
I don't think the powers that be know what they are doing. Mark my word, this is the end of Alice Radio. No Name and Sarah WERE Alice Radio, nobody can replace either of the duo. Vinnie was OK but was the warm up guy for the arrival of No Name. I'm hoping this is either a very late or a very early April Fools joke!!!
As for me, this is my last day of listening. I listened this morning and it was a very lame show. What are you guys thinking????
BRING BACK NO NAME....................!!!
I started my radio career with NO Name at KOME in 1998, he is a very good friend of mine. I have got to say, No Name (Mike) is one of the most stand up guys I have ever met. He is a really good dude. A total 'meat and potatoes' guy. What you see is what you get with Mike. That sucks he got fired, but knowing mike, he will move on to bigger and better things. I am sure Sara wanted to move in this direction. I don't think they got along that well towards the end. But what do I know.
By the way, most of the KOME slogans mentioned were correct. That was a great station, it was really sad to see it go. KOME was a heritage station that many people grew up listening to. I was working there when it disappeared. All of a sudden they stopped ordering letterhead and shwag. Next thing you know everyone started leaving, then it went dark. It was a sad day. They should bring KOME back and have No Name host the morning show.
Sarah is horrible as a DJ! Honestly, he was her saving grace for still being on the radio. She is so dorky, nerdy even with her delivery and historical banter of the 80's. Seriously, what is Alice thinking? Clear Channel... HELLO? No Name is an awesome DJ who is in tune with the listeners... he get's it. I've just changed 97.3 from my dial to 104.9 and it will not go back. Really, why do I want to listen to a radio station run by fools?
We'll follow DJ with No Name...
Take Sarah off already. I used to be an avid listener almost 10 years ago (when Vinnie was on), but grew bored of her bossy boring whiny OLD ass, and Hooman makes me wanna scream. And those stupid ass games each and every morning...they have to give you reward points just so you'll listen. No name and Scott were the *only reasons* I bothered to listen the very rare few times as I did. GET A CLUE ALICE: the world is about hip and trendy, Not old and washed up. I hope No Name gets his own show on MTV or something(use those Carson Daily connections!). He’s always been better than that Alice morning show.
Personally, I liked No Name. I think it's a mistake to focus so heavily on their chick demographic. Do they really want to become the estrogen favored radio station? With a name like Alice, maybe so.
Regardless, I love Sarah. Smart and hot.
